One of the services I really believe will be a success early in the life of the ‘mobile internet’ is location-aware search. It brings a lot of value to customers, the platform provider and of course the provider of the desired service.

I’ve only had my N82 for 5 days and while i’ve been away it’s been great to be able to use the location information through Nokia Maps and the location-aware search through Google Maps. It’s been fun (albeit a little annoying for my family i’m sure) to announce where the nearest ski-school, restaurant or crematorium is and it has been useful in finding our way around but this afternoon as we waited for our bus to the train station, watching our safety minutes tick away before our three-part pre-booked, non-flexible train would leave, landing us with a 200 Euro extra fare and 2 hour delay the N82 saved the day.

I went straight into Google maps, waited ten seconds for he AGPS lock, searched for ‘taxi’ and hit the select key on the first result. Within 6 minutes the taxi was with us. We reached our train with three minutes to spare and were very happy Google Customers. The taxi driver was happy with our tip too.

The only thing missing is the feedback loop through Google to the person who placed the info on the web to let them know that being #1 on the map search result brought them three happy customers.
