@Tal - MIDs are targeted more for consumption of content, like browsing the internet and viewing media, but the line is fuzzy. For example, once MIDs have a voice stack, how will it differ from a smartphone? This space will evolve and I think we'll see some convergence like you describe.

As for Moblin + Android, Android is its own Linux stack for running on ARM, I think (and I'm still learning, so I may be off). They're two different beasts. But if someone can enlighten me otherwise, drop me a note and I'd be happy to look into it.

This is a question to Mr. Moriarty please.
Why don't you go immediately to the smartphone domain and support immediately a device that is both a real PC platform, can have wide screen browsing and operate as a phone ... MIDs is almost there but not quite.

What, you don't just take it for given that because Intel's name is on it that it will take over the world?

Well, neither do I. You're spot on with nearly every point you made, and I appreciate the candor. Android and iPhone have great apps coming, and I write this with Twhirl and Snackr Adobe AIR apps running in the background. What would bring a developer to the moblin/Atom table with all that great stuff already underway?

It's all the versatility and form factors you mentioned. Sometimes I roll my eyes at Intel's own hype, but even I'm seriously impressed at Atom's potential. Setting up the Atom Community, the wiki, and the forum are just getting the groundwork down. As more Atom devices roll out and I can drive some Intel content out into the world, I think it will really take off.

But I'm really trying to set up a community and not just a white paper repository, so please keep the feedback coming and don't pull any punches. I welcome anyone with thoughts or ideas to leave a note in the Atom community or drop me an email at my first name-dot-last name at intel.com.

Cheers!
