Yup. The trends have changed a lot. I've addressed this in later posts though.

[...] Remember all the netbook noise back in May? Computex seems months old and in the meantime we have had many distractions in the form of new camcorders, cameras, TVs, iPhones, audio equipment… But the netbooks are coming, and even if there is some delays like in the case of the MSI Wind, the market will have several models to choose from by the end of the summer. And then it will be time to pose some questions concerning the state of the PC and mobile markets, where they are going, or very importantly where they should already be by now! The following are questions that arose immediately when I learned netbook specs and prices during Computex. And I feel that they are far too important to ignore: [...]

[...] It looks like Elonex are just about to launch some additions to their notebook range. They currently sell the Elonex One in the UK which is a 99 pound ($200) netbook with a detachable keyboard but if you take a look at the new products section on the Computex website you’ll find images of 4 new products. There’s the OneTwo3g which sports a voip phone, the OneTwo3 8 (top right in the picture) which is presumably an 8.9" device that I swear I’ve seen before somewhere, and then there’s a 10.2" device called the…you guessed it, OneTwo3 10.2. Apparently its the ‘Worlds first 10.2" UMPC.’ They obviously didn’t check my diagram! [...]

[...] One really interesting aspect of the ‘leak’ details is that the design is being built exclusively to work with Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile 7 is mentioned too. The article also hints that the MID-range extends from 4-inch minitablets (with keyboards hopefully) up to subnotebooks for NVidia. Stick that in your diagram Steve! [...]

In my opinion in 2009 we will see two trends and your figure is excellent to describe these moves. Being a technology strategist I am willing to bet ... we can go back to this in a year and evaluate if this is right :)
One move will create a consolidated group where now are the UMPCs and the Netbooks. it will be one market more or less in 2009 and people will get a solid PC on the go with lots of desktop power.
The second move will start showing another consolidation between MIDs and mobile phone. MIDs will get voice and this will be the pocketable category. If I had worked for MS I would recommend a strategy of XP light there to win the OS. Otherwise Ubuntu Mobile is going to emerge the winner of that trend.
