Tweakers.net in the Netherlands is reporting that Intel is having trouble keeping up with demand for their Atom processors. This is not the first time we have heard this rumour but it is the first time Intel seem to confirm it. Matty Bakkeren of Intel doesn’t call the shortages drastic but says demand is much higher than anticipated. What effects this will have, if any, aren’t clear but orders are not currently being filled immediately which means delays and shortages of some kind are possible for at least some of the Atom equipped devices. Currently the only Atom devices we have seen on sale are those with a Diamondville processor the more energy efficient Silverthorne devices have yet to reach us and those might now take longer to get to market.
