Menlow-based Kohjinsha SC3 is here. Live sessions today.

It arrived a few hours ago after a swift pass through customs over the weekend and it’s still sitting behind me, boxed and sealed. I’m very, very excited!

The Kohjinsha SC3 will be the first retail device based on the new Intel Menlow platform that I’ve been able to test, and test it I will. Battery life, video performance, Vista performance, typing, GPS, ExpressCard capabilities and much more. It all starts today and for most of it, I’ll be live in the studio so you can join me for a behind-the-scenes look while I do the unboxing. Later today I’ll be running a presentation so you can join me for a closer look and will have the chance to answer questions. I’ll be at the desk doing the unboxing video from about 1700 CET but doing the presentation from about 2100 CET. That’s 2000 UK, 15:00 New York and at 1200 in San Francisco.

See you on UMPCPortal/Live. I’m just off to put some suitable clothes on! ;-)

Am excited to hear your impressions – I took the plunge and ordered one last week. I hope they are favorable!

  2. Mark says:

    Hurrah!

I am really looking forward to your tests – especially any real-world performance tests (ie. AV loaded, concurrent apps running, Firefox, Youtube, Word/Powerpoint, etc.).

Could this at last be the UMPC that I really need? It’s certainly looking good based on the Pocketables review, but it’ll be great to read your impressions too.

BTW- with Windows Ultimate, is it possible to switch from an English GUI to a Japanese GUI? Ideally, I’d like to be able to switch easily…

Also, could you give us an idea of the import tax into Germany? I am in the UK, but I guess that the tax will be similar…

    Cheers,

    Mark

Import tax into EU for any computer product is simply (local sales tax + handling)
    For Germany, 19% + about 20 Euros.

You can change languages in Ultimate, yes. Also, you get downgrade to XP rights
    Steve.

  4. Zapgun says:

Hi chippy, does the unit come with XP drivers?

  5. Tom says:

I’m really looking forward to this review too! :) Particularly how it performs with 3D (Jenn’s was lacking info. on that) and all important battery-life.

  6. Tom says:

oh, and also it would be great to _see_ exactly how the extended battery looks in the device.
