The Lifebooks seem to fit the bill, I'll keep an eye out for a good price. Fujitsu-Siemens have a Lifebook4Life promotion, has anyone heard anything about that (good or bad)?

The PowerBook's still a good workhorse, it's got some life left in it. It should keep me going for a while. Then again, if XP/ Linux support improves on the SX3...

Thanks everyone, for the helpful suggestions.

Missed the desire for a convertible touchscreen, sorry I missed that. However, the Advent 4211 is still great.

19. Andrew. I have a Powerbook G4 12" that still works, though the battery is shot, but needed a PC for a course that I'm doing. I have bought the Advent 4211 (MSI Wind clone) and believe me, it's a brilliant alternative, it's smaller, lighter, good keyboard and with the extended life battery just as good as the powerbook was the day I bought it, easily 5 hours and it's lighter and fits nicely in my powerbook case :-)

One good thing for a road warrior who might have to put on a slide presentation (where the slide projector uses 1024x768) is to select a netbook that has at least the 768 on the bottom (so that it is easy to edit and view, the full slide length that you are using for the slide show presentation).

HP Mini Note is the only one that has that (or is there another)? Is it true that the HP Mini Note can be configured for 1024x768? What others can do the same? MSI, Asus, Acer, etc?

Chippy, first, thank you very much for your advices!

About XP & WiMAX.
I like XP, but don't insist on it :-). But networks are the great problem. I wrote that EDGE for me is a must because we have everywhere only it, but i don't want to have only it. In Moscow we won't have 3,5G, but we have unique 450MHz EV-DO and, somewhere, WiMAX. And if the modem (EDGE, EV-DO, WiMAX) is not built in, will it have drivers for non-windows OS?
Chippy, what's your opinion: will there be any gadget that can work with EDGE and WiMAX? Will they both be built-in, or USB-connected? What OS will be?
Also I'm afraid that there won't be codec or some doc viewer for non-windows OS.

What about "easy document editing". The keyboard on iPhone is great for 3,5" device and for 5" device it can be better of course. So I'm sure that sometimes we'll have great on-line keyboard for 4,8" screen that will be enough! Of course, one should go through special training, like for fast typing on normal keybord. I will be first :-)
Chippy, do you think, i'm dreaming too much?

My problems became of misunderstaning the task. I thought that the task was "the MID of your dream". Of course, all the choices of nowadays (iPhone, Nokia 810, Archos 5, Aigo MID or Gigabyte M528, Porient), doesn't fit because of 1)network; 2)all-in-one soft or 3)large size

Thank you once else!

If you don't mind a US version of p1610, they're going for under $700 USD used on US ebay. You can sometimes even get a used p1620 for under $900. Upgrade to extended battery and 1GB RAM for about $130.
