I’d call bullshit, since it looks like a mix between their old design, and the one they just adopted. Namely, the keyboard follows the new design, while the screen (which now has a black bezel and all covered in glass) looks old. It’d be strange for Apple to put out something so inconsistent with their current line-up.

I think that’s fake, though I’d love it to be real. For that fullsize keyboard to fit, I think the keys would have to each be the size of a tic tac.

The topic/subject is real there’s no doubt that Apple is working on such a product. Now how real or close to reality the pictures are, who cares at this point? :)

I think the problem for Apple is that they can’t really ship a cheap underpowered netbook. What operating system would it run? Leopard runs quite well on my MSI Wind, but when Snow Leopard is released I’m sure the system requirements will be bumped up - especially in the graphics department (that seems to be one of the big selling points of Snow Leopard) and with a heavier operating system a netbook probably won’t do OSX justice.

Apple typically don’t support their operating systems for very long (compared to Microsoft) and I can’t see them keeping leopard around just for netbooks while Snow Leopard is on the ‘real’ macs.

Obviously this is all speculation, but I do think it factors in. Maybe their netbook will be some kind of overgrown iPhone with modified iPhone apps running on it. Or maybe they’ll just wait a year and netbook hardware will have evolved enough to run the next gen of OSX.

    My feeling:

With 24 billion in cash and zero debt, why would Apple go into the rocky waters of the netbook market? They need to look at building a replacement product for the ipod first. That means portable internet and video.

If I were them, i’d be putting effort into a slick internet / media player with a 5″ screen and not mession about with cheap products that would affect their stable notebook strategy.

    Steve.

“They need to look at building a replacement product for the ipod first.”

Aah I heard somewhere that they had released an iPod called iPod Touch and another brother to it called an iPhone, have you heard of them? :)

“..and not mession about with cheap products…”

Not do what? Cheap? We are talking Apple here right? :) When were they cheap or even affordable?

Exactly, The ipod touch proves that they need to move away from audi-only and move up towards video and internet devices, The cheap products i was talking about were the netbooks of course, Apple should, and will I guess, stay away from the,.

If ti is not real: Photoshop is great.
If it´s real: well… netbooks are in top of actually products… could be like a Ipod but with a couple of tonnes of esteroids.
    Don´t you think?

These pics might very well be only PS jobs, but trust me there is a MINI Notebook in the works from Apple, and it’s obvious to anyone familiar with the Apple products that the Mac mini is WAY overdue for a major overhaul, you know it’s the ONLY Mac you still can’t get with Wifi N! :(

This is what apparently happens when someone in China can’t read English. (It could happen to me with a Chinese site too — but I’d play with a translation program first to try to suss out what’s going on!)

It seems you guys are more interested in the renderings and the origins of them then of the product they represent. It should be obvious to anyone with eyes that these are computer generated pictures, the whole concept though is very much real.

I think I would rather have seen the macbook air be their entry in this market, with a smaller form factor.

I’ve always loved the air, but have never gone so far as to buy one because I think it needs to have a smaller footprint. Not much smaller, but smaller - perhaps an 11″ screen instead of 13″.

Then they could just call it a day - the macbook air would be their small/mini notebook for people that want a mac/OSX system but want to throw it into their carry-on, and they could then concentrate their resources on a super thin slate form factor for web browsing.

So instead of a macbook sized macbook air, I think they should have made the macbook air smaller and then started working on a 7 or 8″ screened “iphone” for keyboardless web surfing/reading.

That being said, I think I _will_ get the air, I just wish it was smalle enough that when I toss it into my duffle bag my magazines would be _larger_ than it and protect it by being larger. As it is now, it is the same size as a magazine.
