Nicole's Tour Plan

Posted on 23 December 2008, Last updated on 11 November 2019 by

Looking at Steve’s and Jenn‘s tour plan you might start to think that the mobile web is about ‘doing crazy tours through many countries in a short amount of time’ (and that does not even include what that crazy scot Ewan will be doing …).

I am not sure how you feel, but I am a bit intimidated yet curious at the same time about how this will turn out for the both. I also will be travelling during that time but my research will be focussing a bit more on what you might call the “productiviy side of things”. What does it mean to really be mobile when you have the right gadgets at your disposal? Is it really as easy as it sounds to ‘go mobile’?

Up until now I do have two different ‘states’ of how I work: eitherĀ  in my home office, where I do have everything in reach, be it good mics for recording podcast interviews or write text, or I am on the road visiting events and conferences where I tend to leave my stuff at home because Laptop and co are just too heavy and bothersome.

Being on the road and only having a small mobile phone with me is the least of all evils but not the way I want to be on the road. I want to carry a cell phone around where I can make a note “remember to visit this store again and this was the address” or “here is a small but functional keyboard – go have fun!” without the need to carry around my big laptop. At the same time I have been ‘downgrading’ my gadgets a bit over the years but the amount of cables and more I need to take with me on the road is still insane.

Usually you dont really have the chance to dedicate time to explore the options and gadgets – but this Midmoves Tour will let me do exactly that. So my trip will be exploring what is out there and how it works in daily life. I will meet up with Steve for the Microblogging conference in Hamburg and you can be assured that there will be some gadgeting out meeting around that time! ;)
