Lots of good points here. I tried an iphone, and I wasn't all that impressed. Maybe the N97 will be worthwhile.

J2SE applications will not run on this platform.

Furthermore it has been suggested that J2ME applications may not run that well either due to the screen resolution and touchscreen interface. It seems like J2ME applications may need to run in "compatibility mode":

'MID power' is a difficult term to provide.

'Mobile Internet' means connecting many applications, services and hardware to the internet and making it mobile. The N97 appears to achieve this. Audio, video, podcasts, images, radio, navigation, location, messaging, voice, web etc.

If you want a mobile web device though - a device focused on powerful web access and interactivity at a pro-sumer level, the N97 might not be what you want. Small screen is a limitation and question marks still remain over processing power.

it's sort of the most widespread platform today...for smartphones. all nokia smartphones are based on symbian (not only smartphones) and there are thousands of programs out there, although i don't know how it will look like for this specific platform. java is no problem at all.

i really like the device, but in the other article you can clearly see, that not everything is still very fluid and smooth. but i'm confident that nokia will manage to get that fixed. it all boils down to price. this device with tomtom and you're set. this nokia n97, the htc touch hd (android? maybe) and the iphone. the thouch hd is quite expensive, too expensive, the iphone is there and we know it, but this one if cheaper than the iphone would be great. i am waiting for some browsing videos to see the performance of browser with flash and full websites.

So this is the first smartphone with a MID power?
I am not a big fan of Symbian so how open is it? Can I add programs and access the system?
Does it support J2SE for instance? (or just J2ME)
