Gizmodo just got the specs on the OQO Model 02+ ….
Note it’s got the same 800×480 screen. Atom 1.33 and 1.8Ghz versions. XP and Vista options. Looking good OQO. More details as we get them.

Suddenly I’m interested in the OQO again, my main complaint before was lack of touchscreen and the noise (I got round the price by getting a used one when the dollar to pound was good!).
Hopefully Atom will sort the heat/noise issues, the screens are touchsceen (with an OLED option) and 3G is optional too and the prices are close to acceptable for such a quality bit of kit.

Listen…, I’m very disappointed in these guys (OQO Engineers) for not including any camera device of any sort….!!!! Please ask them what their problem is with listening to the purchasing public. I really wish that Sony still had the UX UMPC’s with an improved keyboard that had closer functionality to the OQO’s keyboard. Apart from the terrible keyboard it was the most complete of all the UMPCs.
Please ask them whether or not they intend to complete the features of this device (OQO 2+) or should I look elsewhere for my everywhere anytime computing hardware? There are other options in the market that are far more complete and I was holding off in purchasing them in hopes of OQO coming through with something really innovative and complete.
Yes OLED is really awesome and all but the screen appears to bezeled and not smooth and flush like the 02. The whole thing is not any thinner and the battery life doesn’t appear to have been improved much. There is SD slot or such for memory expansion.
I was hoping to turn this on in the morning hibernate or standby through lunch and maybe recharge in the docking station in the afternoon while doing some heavy typing in desktop mode. All the time using the standard battery.
If I need to do an instant conference call with another colleague possibly using M$ OCS for a web conference I could just smile and my feature complete OQO obliges me without issue.(Webcam) For $1500+ I should not be reaching for any additional hardware to do what I have to do. No excuses….!!!!
Why should I have to reach for another device for any reason throughout the day. If I own a OQO I supposed to have it all. Tell OQO to please just shoe horn in a webcam like everyone else for goodness sake..!!! Try the upper right-hand corner utilizing the same webcam as the HTC TyTN II cell phone. I’m certain that can fit…!!!

First off, wow what a great device! I already own an HTC Shift, I did consider the OQO e2 last year, but plumped for the Shift instead. Reasons for this were the SD card reader, webcam, the ability to unlock Windows Mobile with a bit of hacking, larger keyboard and screen, and of course price.
It’s nice to see that the key hardware items are now falling into place in one device that will make UMPCs go to the next level. They are, low power CPU, a nice amount of RAM to run the OS in use (1 GB doesn’t cut it), SSD and of course that lovely OLED display. No surprise that OQO leads the way!
I love the quality of OQO and their “no compromise for the sake of price” approach, which is why the following omissions are a bit of a let down.
I agree with Norman, for a mobile device like this surely a simple thing like a 1.3MP webcam is a requirement? It is really annoying that there isn’t one! The same goes for GPS! This is a REALLY lovely mobile device which would make a lot of sense to have a GPS, so that it can double up as a route finder. A GPS would also be particularly handy now that many services on the web are becoming location aware.
That said, I would be tempted to still go with the OQO 2+ (if I have the spare cash), but these missing items might cause me to sit on the fence and wait to see what others or OQO themselves come up with at a later date. The Shift will do for a while yet I think…

Lets hope they’ve sorted out the appalling graphics performance of the previous models. It couldn’t even play a standard xvid film without coming to a grinding halt!

The main question is: how many people using a webcam on the current devices? I guess not many! I’ll stay with my decision to buy a WiBrain I1, I know its an ugly design but a real deal for that price which includes: >5H battery life (very important IMHO), build in 3G, 1024 x 600 RES and there you have your webcam as well. Thats almost half for the price of the OQO 2+. Okay it has no OLED screen, but who knows how long the lifetime is on such new technologys? On a 1 year warranty base I wouldn’t take the risk for that high amount. Thats just my opinion.
