A Wishlist for Mauku

Posted on 22 March 2009 by

I’m sorry if this appears a little too detailed for a news post on UMPCportal but I really need to write my thoughts down before I forget them.

For those that don’t know what Mauku is, its a Twitter and Jaiku client for Maemo devices like the Nokia N810. I’m a big fan and its one of my most used applications on the device but its falling behind with it’s implementation of Twitter. I need more!

I contacted the developer recently to ask about status and he kindly wrote back saying that there were some updates in the pipeline. Version 0.6 was released last week and it included important Jaiku updates but didnt include any changes on the Twiiter client. There is another release coming for Maemo 4 but after tha he’ll be focusing on Maemo 5.

There are a number of bug reports and requests on the developers page but here, in one list, is what I think needs to be done to bring it up to a level where Twitter addicts might even consider buying the N810 just for this application.

  • Follow, Unfollow option
  • Retweet / Via
  • Location update via api
  • Search and result integration in home stream.
  • New follower alerts
  • Location search
  • Donate to developer button (he deserves it!)
  • Hide posts containing keyword
  • Integrated url shortening.

If you use Mauku and have any thoughts on how to improve it, drop your comments below. The Mauku website is here.

All of the ideas are needed, but I really like this one!

iirc, the url shortening is there, tho its automatically triggered only if the url goes beyond the allowed size of a twitter message.

I agree with your suggestions. I’d also REALLY like the following:

    • Replying to a tweet should post your tweet with the in_reply_to status id set (thus threading the reply on Twitter)
    • Marking an item should favorite it on Twitter (and probably sync Mauku’s db with Twitter)
