UMID M1, Viliv S5 and just maybe a Compal MID are on my daydream short list at the moment, naturally each with 3G. Each have their flaws (no connectivity, no keyboard and no battery life, respectively) but I’m not seriously contemplating on any of them until pricing of the 3G models and European availability is known.
Thanks for posting this! I like this. When it’s available with more connectivity it will be very, very attractive. There’s been comments elsewhere on poor build quality, could you check that out while you’re at it? It would also be interesting to know why they opted to exclude the keyboard located mouse. Looking forward to todays’ continuation.
Finally, just a couple of comments for you JKK, I really appreciate it when you are being specfic such as “I would have liked another shift button”, and “I would like the screen to be more flat. Your review could be even clearer if you did the same with the following comment of yours “In many ways I’m really liking it. In some ways the design doesn’t fit in my eyes.” Be even more explicit please, because I can only guess what you’re thoughts are!
I just went back to P33 to play a bit with the UMID and the guy told me that they get 6hrs battery with full-usage and WiFi on. It will probably cost €399 in the Netherlands/Germany for the 1.1GHy version, so I think it will be less than $500 in US then.

Great to see vid on UMID….
So, I assume that if it has really ‘soft touch’ display then it won’t be good for inking notes, right???
Thanks.

Yeah, touchscreens seem to be getting softer and softer.

Steve, is UMID M1 keyboard suitable for touch-typing? Maybe with just two fingers? Are the keys hard to press?

Windows XP shows the time remaining if you hover the mouse pointer over the battery icon… which you can’t do with a touchscreen. LOL.
