One thing about DMB in mbook. they don't work in South Korea either...
At least in most part and 'most part' means places where other DMB devices
work fine...

I thought the same thing as comscier, so I picked up a converter from a dollar store in Tokyo (hyaku en shop). It doesn't fit. It's quite possible I bought the wrong converter, but it was in the cell phone section and it was the only headphone converter on the shelf.

Unfortunately I dumped the packaging, so I can't really confirm what it is.

Apparently I should have bought a whole bunch of them and sold them off on eBay :)

viliv announced a model with 3G and an SSD at their website. According to JKK, that's the one they sent him for evaluation. For all we know though, he may be the only person outside of viliv who has an unmodified viliv S5 that has an SSD. I don't think viliv has announced a release date for the 3G SSD model.

Isn't there a forum post that says the SSD runs slow AND hot??(review by fixup) You can't rely on boot times and application loading times as being a "fast" SSD because that's the inherent strength of using flash memory. The problem is, your USB stick can probably achieve the same thing.

The differentiating factor for SSDs are the write speeds. ALL NAND flash memory used in SSD NEEDS to read the data, store the data temporarily on a buffer, then write it back when you want to write to flash the SECOND time.

See, hard drives can never ever catch up to read speeds of even the slowest flash memory, but they will never temporarily freeze the system(called a "stutter") which will happen on a mediocre SSD that is logically full.

Plus, they are cheap.

Thanks for these, Chippy. I only got to see some of it so will download the UMID one to see later. Still no viable replacement for my OQO on the horizon, though.

in some machines one could choose if standby was to ram or to disk.
but one important thing in regard to fast hybernation is: you have to keep the system defragmented (hyberfile as well as sysfile) and the registry clean. both things can slow down not only the system over all, but especially these processes, besides hampering them.

Regarding the odd standby time differences, it sounds like the process the old Libretto went through. The laptop would keep RAM powered on for a set amount of time (5mins, etc), and then after that cache the RAM to HD. If you came back within the 5 mins, power on was almost instant, but after that it would take a while.
