  2. FrozenIpaq says:

Wow, a very good price for those stats (and battery life!). I’ll be interested to see what you think of it if you can pick one up

  3. turn.self.off says:

now that was unexpected! btw, i think that may be the same cpu as in the iphone.

now i wonder if they will be equally helpful with a mer port on this one…

  4. chasmic says:

    is electroworld a trusted/proven supplier?
i guess you’ll have to wait until tomorrow chinese time to get a response to you order request Steve…

  5. Chippy says:

Yeah. I guess they’ll get quite a few email requests today. Lets see what happens when they wake up to see them all.

    Steve

  6. turn_self_off says:

That’s a very good question, as it seems their payment options are limited.

Also, they claim that any shipments that go missing is the customers problem…

  7. Vladimir says:

    What does:
“Connectivity: 2.0 USB HOST supported to connect the high-speed EDGE, HSDPA network adapter or mobile phone” mean?

Could a digital camera be connected to the Q7?

I know Ubuntu has support for Canon DSLRs!
    Cheers
    Vladimir

  8. turn_self_off says:

That would depend on the software installed, tho if the camera can be accessed as a external drive, it could probably work.

I think people have done so with the N8x0 tablets as well, after one found how to get the port into host mode.

Now that i think about it, there was maybe even a Canon control program made for the Nokia tablets…

  9. PJE says:

Looks interesting, although 128MB Ram seems a little low for this type of device – could this limit browsing performance?

  10. turn_self_off says:

I would say it should work fine.

Tho that depends on the number of pages one wants to have going at the same time, and also what other things one try to do while browsing.

If it becomes limiting i’m sure one can pull a similar stunt to what people did on the nokia 770, and nokia made a tool for on later tablets, basically putting a swap file on the SD card.

  11. mmp-7 says:

I will stay away from this website, it looks doggy to me.

  12. Dave says:

totally agree this site looks dodgy as hell. I would wait if I were you Steve. No paypal which is a no no for me straight off. Also there’s no way of knowing when it’s actually going to be released. The other smartq mid is still waiting for English release. I have bought a few pmps from hong kong and always use allpmp as service been good. I will keep an eye out on there for a pre order sale

  13. Chippy says:

I’m going to go for a loaner/review device. There’s enough interest just here for it to be worth them sending one over. But then again, i’d like to test them as a normal consumer.

  14. fab says:

dodgy or not, i love these companies that offer also these products. why do we always take for granted that something has to be expensive to be good? might it be possible that we are paying too much? if this device for 190 usd is great,…Steve, waiting for your info as i absolutely consider purchasing as well. i like also the 5″ MID…similar specs and 150 usd

  15. saperalot says:

i ordered one too i love such sofasurfing devices and for that price …. we will see, ubuntu linux is a good choice on it i think.

  16. Juanjo says:

    Hi,
    I think it’s a fake shop.
You must see what prices they have for iphone or samsung omnia…IF this prizes are for real i want 10 of them…

  17. fab says:

it’s so easy to say it’s fake, but if you read correctly it’s written that those phones are “COPIES” and not originals. they will look similar but have functions which are very basic

come on people, READ what’s written on their product sites

  18. Despedidas de Solteras Barcelona says:

Can anyone give us some info about this shop? Is it secure? or is it only a fake?

  19. Corrupted Mind says:

Wow – that was unexpected… another slate to consider and for pocketmoney too… hmmmm

  20. icura says:

It has to be fake. $99 for N96, $199 for Sony X1?

  21. icura says:

or it could be like the other site and it is just putting fake prices in while it sets up the online store.

  22. Josh24 says:

    Chippy,

    Thanks for the source,
May I know where did you get the information if its a legit suplier?
I knew that e-world already and interested to try order from them for long time, but it always holds me back since there are too many scammer china website very similar like this and on alibaba as well (personal experience). :-(

  23. POPO says:

Are there any real pictures of the product?
All the photos on the websight seem to be renders. :(
I am rather excited at the design and price but,
there’s still no way to know if this is real yet.

  24. Chippy says:

Working on it but after waking up to no return email this morning, it’s not looking good.
Will try further contact with Smartdevices.

    Steve

  25. AlexQ says:

.. one concern for me is their preference for payment by Western Union – I’d be extremely cautious with any company or individual insisting on this as a form of payment.

  26. fab says:

what’s all that panic? it’s amazing how people judge before actually ANYTHING happened! nothing happened, nobody lost anything, but immediately the site is scam and wrong info…show me what’s wrong and where the wrong info is..amazing, and also they write they reply to emails etc within 2 days…so…there’s really time.

you want the real iphone, go and get it and pay for it. you want a copy with less specs and for 99 usd? you can have it too, but why saying it’s wrong info.

yes, most pictures are rendered, but they also show the actual OS of this device.

how many companies show rendered images and not the real one? ask yourself because basically ALL companies do that

  27. POPO says:

well its not that they are just showing rendered pics, and have real ones somewhere else
it’s that they only have concept art.
But I do think you are right that we shouldn’t get excited until Chippy hears more…

Did somebody beat Michael Arrington and @TechCrunch to the Crunch Pad? http://bit.ly/1Gg8MN

  29. squirrel says:

Chippy! What’s the size of the device? (it database size of Q7=Q5)

  30. Chippy says:

    thx. that was a mistake.
no details available but imagine a slimmer q1ex.
    http://www.umpcportal.com/products/Samsung/Q1EX/

  31. squirrel says:

    Thank you!

  32. Mike Cane says:

All of you run to your local ebays and type in “SmartQ 7” and “SmartQ 5.” I found the 5 on USA eBay. $225, but Chinese-only. REAL photos, so at least the 5″-screen version exists. And the seller would take PayPal. But I’m not ordering. No use for Chinese or 5″ for $225.

  33. turn_self_off says:

how about running MER or it?
    http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=27433

that should not only give it english, but possibly some other languages to, over time ;)

  34. squirrel says:

    Chippy
News about Xcore device-on-chip. Motherboard is so small that you can build a smartphone that can run Windows
Energy consumption is small too, so the Gecko EduBook – netbook on Xcore – works from 8 AA batteries. Moreover netbook is completely modular and have internal USB and two screens))
    http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/07/next-gecko-netbook-to-have-bigger-screen-aa-power-200-price/

theoretically, we can have light Windows MID’s based on it

  35. squirrel says:

Does anybody know what’s the speed of the xcore (vortex86mx) compared to arm cortex?

  36. Dave says:

This device wont be available for import for at least 6 weeks. Thats based on my experience with the other “renders” of the PMPs that come out China. I pre ordered an Onda HD player from HK about 2 weeks after the rendered image, similar to these pics, came out and it arrived another 4 weeks later. So by my estimation this devise should be showing sometime end of June. If it arrives around 180-200 dollars, then its a good punt. If you find the right site you may get a pre order around 180 dollars. Its a lottery though, and the SmartQ5 english version should be around by then. The reviews of this unit should prove a decent benchmark for this new devise.

  37. Chippy says:

still waiting for responses from various contacts.

  38. Kabalk says:

    Hello
I discover http://www.eletroworld.cn one month ago.
I want a Smartq 5 or 7,but Smartdevices only have Chinese OS, this shop tell me they have English OS and send me images of smartq 5 with Spanish OS!!
I ask about Skytone Alpha 200 and 700 too, they send me price and render images, but they can´t solve me questions about Full Specs or show me real images.
I have no reply from manufacturer Smartdevices and Skytone.
http://www.eletroworld.cn have paypal, add 3,7% to price.
Its a fake? if i paid i never see money, device or have reply from the shop?
I think i wait to be sure.
