by 6″ & 6.5″ i meant the SCREEN, which could technically be smaller than the OQO if it was a bezel-less design.

Actually, an OQO is 5.5″x3.3″, so no, it wouldn’t be smaller than an OQO. (I suspect one of the reasons why an OQO is so expensive is shaving off that last half inch from 6″ to 5.5″.) However, a Viliv is about the size you mentioned and that does fit in a pant pocket, if barely. (Obviously, it easily fits in to a jacket pocket.)

Apple has yet to make a bezel-less device. No one has made a device with a 7″ screen that fits in a pocket. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but the only people I see who care about 7″ screens are people who read this blog on the like. If Apple doesn’t want to tap into the netbook market, it’s hard to see them tapping into an even smaller one.

Ya I would imagine that the device should be able to handle most web content, but again the Flash thing might not work so well even if it was supported through the device because the touch navigation is much different than using a mouse and the Flash content would have a hard time making sense of it.

Do you envision such a device as being able to surf the internet…*all* of the internet? In other words, would it be compatible with, and able to view the content of, the ‘few’ sites that use Flash and Java? Might it be able to stream internet radio and videos without relying upon specific apps for specific sites? THAT would be a great device.

Unlike the current, internet-crippled iPhone/Touch.

I agree that some apps wouldn’t work well without a physical keyboard… which is why one of the things I hope for on this Apple middle-size device is: some form of USB-Host or USB-OTG support. Either an accessible port right on the device, or a dock that has one (2-3) of them.

Then you can use non-keyboard apps, or apps that are ok with a little bit of virtual thumb keyboarding, on the go … or sit down at a desk/table, pull out the keyboard (and, maybe dock), and start doing some real work. No need to carry both this tablet AND a laptop.

iWork on something without an offscreen keyboard seems kinda pointless to me imho. Even on 7″ an onscreen keyboard would probably eat tomuch screen estate to do any meaningfull stuff with iWork. Plus they will have to pony up some serious resolution. iPhones resolution is appaulingly low.

You can forget about that resolution. The “supposedly awesome” 3D graphics chip in the iphone would crap bricks if it had to go factor 2 on resolution.

Love my iPhone more and more every day, because of usability and daily new apps, now for a bigger screened device, it needs to offer a Mac OS functional touch solution, to be really attractive.

I dont see Apple doing something half made, I think this would be a device where a POCKETABLE MAC EXPERIENCE FIRST SEES THE LIGHT, the iPhone have the touch usability and next step will be Mac OS 10.? pocketable with word, excel (iWork) installed. Here´s hoping for that!

I’m an Apple hater too, however I imported a first gen iPhone to the UK long before they were available here. I’m a gadget addict and wanted a quick play before making a profit on eBay.

And I fell in love. There isn’t a single hand held gadget that has survived with me as long as the iPhone has, and I’ve tried a lot of PDAs, MIDs and UMPCs.

It just works, and does it so nicely that if they can do the same in a small tablet I’ll pay their silly prices.
