Archos 5 Internet Tablet (Android) Unboxing Video.

Posted on 02 October 2009, Last updated on 10 June 2018 by

We (that’s JKK and I) are preparing for a live session Live seesion recordings are here.

The Archos 5 Internet Tablet (oh so slim!) unboxing video is now ready…

So far i’m really liking what I see. There’s no flash support in the browser (Q1 2010 for Flash 10 and Android 2.0) but YouTube plays via the built-in video player in excelent quality and the general browsing speed is really impressive. I threw a load of videos at it and they were all recognised (some need an HD plugin) and there’s a bunch of exciting apps in the app store. It’s early days but I’m feeling really positive about this. If only it had 3G!

I’m surprised that the mobile version of umpcportal scrolled a lot more choppy than the desktop version which scrolled pretty smoothly.

Also, it’s a bummer how native flash support isn’t there yet…. which means all flash and ajax websites (addictive flash games, facebook) won’t show properly…

Can you please show the desktop version of facebook and try to watch a facebook video post (not youtube), then try commenting on it?

    Thanks Chippy :)

You can download any .swf or .flv files and simply double click on them. Those addictive Flash games thus work like that. There are tens of thousands of more or less addictive free flash games available.

Flash support in the browser requires that Google adds Flash 9 Lite support in the Webkit Android browser, cause Archos has done it previously but only using the Opera browser since the Opera people worked with Archos during the past 4-5 years to provide until then the best embedded web browser experience.

I’ve seen rumors and reports on the web pointing towards that the Native SDK for Android which was released just a couple of months ago means that the Mozilla teams are working on Firefox Fennec for Android, Opera is working on a full Opera browser for Android and I think the so-called Google Chrome OS basically means that Google is preparing a full Chrome browser for ARM Linux devices thus to be usable on Android devices as well. All these browsers should have full desktop-like support for Flash, AJAX, extensions.

    Thanks for that, very interesting.

I’m surprised there’s no stylus, since it’s a resistive touch screen. If I bought one I’d use a stylus anyway, but it’s nice to have one stored in the device.

No mains charger is a bit of a pain, so is micro-USB given I’ve got a few mini-USB mains adapters. I’d have to get a mini-to-micro adapter.

    Alan.

  13. turn_self_off says:

or get a mains adapter that provides a standard usb-A out, and use the provided cable ;)

Is is true that you can connect USB Flash to mini-dock only when it connected to power? It it also true for dock, that has battery?

  21. chippy says:

Good question.I will try to find answer before I buy the dock.

  22. dan says:

there are more future in this type of mids, because the OS is more effective with the battery use, and don´t need a big cpu to run fast and smooth. I think the 2010 is the year of the slates mids with android or iphone osx. Sorry for my poor level of english.

  23. dan says:

And yes, Chippy, with a 3,5g capacity (and a compass, of course Pedro) this mid is a perfect device.

  24. Guy says:

How do you put flash games on the archos 5. And where and how do you download a flash game
