Hugo Ortega Readying the Tega Tablet

Posted on 27 February 2010 by

tegatech-tega-3g-w7p Hugo Ortega, who runs the ever interesting blog Uber Tablet, is preparing to launch a device with his company, Tegatech. The aptly named Tega tablet looks to be a rather clean Slate with some fairly regular sounding specifications. It has a 10.2” resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024×600, uses a 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, and has built-in 3G. The asking price seems a bit steep considering the Slate competition out there — $995 for a version with no OS, or $1,145 for one with Windows 7 Starter (there is also a Win 7 Home Premium version available). 4. Elmstrom says:

If you look at Hugo’s own blog, he says it will be alot cheaper..

To throw me that line Carlos you probably have never read my blog. There is never BS here! From US$650.76

I believe one site has already reviewed the tablet and although it’s nice, it has very bad battery life with 2 to 3 hours.

well another chinese umpc making it into the developed market via a different brand name

just checkout the k.r.t x9 & search ebay for midfans (user id…no i am in no way related to the seller ..for information purposes only ) to see all the umpc being sold directly from china for a much cheaper price.

I repeat I have neither bought any of the umpc listed in the sale nor I am related to the ebay seller in anyway , it was a search on ebay that landed on that page.

I like the guy but this just shows his like for money. What is inovative in this product? Price?

  8. Fred says:

oH! I got it. It is the last 4 letters of his last name on the slate… Overpriced

    How come ?

With the Viliv X70 you get almost the same specs, with an SSD and a smaller form factor (yet the same resolution), almost HALF the weight, and more importantly – almost half the price (for the entry model).
And it’s almost one year old.

    peter Reply:

are you sure X70 is half the price? go on to dynamism and take a look
an X70 is equipped with lower-end specs which make the difference
first off, a slower processor, lower-res, single point touch screen, smaller storage space, win xp, no keyboard, less connectors..etc
the prices are really close. i don’t think X70 is considered cheaper in the sense

    pouncep Reply:

Where are you getting this from? X70 starts at ~600USD and according to UMPC Portal this starts at ~1000USD. (Ortega claims it starts around 600USD/AUD?)

1.Processor is slower, that’s true, but can you really notice a 1.33 vs 1.6?
    2.Resolution: same
    3.Graphics: same
    4.Mem: same
5.Screen: multi-touch compliant if you have the right drivers
6.Storage is the only thing you might argue but X70 has SSD, if you want to go for storage then get an external drive.
7.How is XP a bad thing?
8.Wait, this thing has a keyboard?
9.Less connectors, that’s true but Battery indicator is considered a UI control?
10.Battery, battery. This advertised a 2.5h but X70 gives at least 4.5(Non-3G version)
11.X70 weighs around 700g whereas this is 1000g. You’ll notice the ~50% increase in a few minutes.

I am typically a fan of Hugo’s blog, but I am having a hard time telling how this device differs from the iLet 10 and Extreme. Seems like it is just the same device from the OEM, re-branded. I have been looking at the iLet, though, so if the price is the same as Haleron has on its own website, maybe it would not be such a bad deal.
