Neofonie WePad Gets Shown off for Real [video]

Posted on 27 April 2010

Last time we saw something about Neofonie’s WePad slate [product page], all we got to see was an emulated version of the interface. According to netbooknews.com, “Neofine finally got sick of hearing how its product didn’t work and provided a working sample inch. And thus netbooknews has lots of footage of Neofonie showing off some actual working devices at a recent press event. Watch below as they demonstrate that giant widget filled home screen (which I absolutely despise), among other things. You’ll see that they actually have an iPad on […]

EKEN M001 7″ Android Tablet Reviewed.

Posted on 26 April 2010

While Shanzai.com seem to be fairly upbeat about this 7 inch touchscreen (resistive it appears) tablet, I’m not so sure. I had the same reservations about the Camangi Webstation (which turned out to be less than exciting) and I have the same reservations about the Archos 7 tablet. I’ve experienced it with the SmartQ7 tablet too. The reason is that we’re looking at an Android device built on a processing architecture that pre-dates even the first Android phones. Via’s WonderMedia platform might be cheap, but with its ARM9 architecture core […]

Only 64 JooJoos Purchased?

Posted on 26 April 2010

If this turns out to be accurate, I have to say that I feel pretty bad for Fusion Garage — the company behind the Joojoo [product page]. The numbers are so low for Joojoo pre-orders that it’s almost unbelievable, but then again, I can’t say that I saw any advertising for the Joojoo, pre- or post-launch, maybe they thought it’d sell itself? I think anyone could have told them that they weren’t going to do much damage if they were releasing on the same month as the iPad, and at […]

A tale of two Archos 5 Android owners

Posted on 26 April 2010

I love the Archos 5 Internet Tablet. Jenn of Pocketables, on the other hand, doesn’t and we’ve been having a to-and-fro on Twitter that’s worth extending here because  it shows how personal opinions can vary widly. We’ve challenged ourselves to write one paragraph on the A5 to say why we think what we think. Before that though, here are a few tweets that kicked the discussion off. @Smith922 I’ve never had a 5, 6, 7, 9 or 10″ device that beats this around the house. @pocketables will give you a […]

Dell’s ARM-based MID and Netbook Roadmap shows Incompatible Moblin Option.

Posted on 25 April 2010

I don’t know where to start with this one but highlighting the incompatibility between Moblin and ARM-based devices is a good place too start and it gives us a hint that this might not be the huge and interesting MID and ‘smart’ book leak that it could have been. The ‘roadmap’ picked up by Android Central shows three Dell MID devices. The 4.1 inch 640×480 (also marked up as WVGA) Thunder based on Windows Mobile/Android is the first. Then we have the 5 inch Streak which is being shown as […]

Owner Post: Archos 5 Vs iPad in Productivity Scenarios.

Posted on 25 April 2010

Despite the Archos 5 and the iPad being very different in terms of size, software and even elements of the hardware, there’s still a connecting factor. These two devices are both devices that focus on home use but are very tempting to use as part of an-ultra mobile productivity solution. It’s great to see people testing out devices in this way and Hector, the author of the guest post below has gone much further than most will with their iPad. Thanks Hector for taking the time to explain how you use both devices and where each device fits into your routine.

Archos 7 Home Tablet Now Available for Pre-Order from Amazon for $199

Posted on 23 April 2010

The modestly priced Archos 7 Home Tablet [product page] is now available for pre-order from Amazon for $199. It is the 8GB version, but there will purportedly be a 2GB version as well. Archos has stated that the tablet will ship by end of April. The Archos 7 Home Tablet (let’s call it the Archos 7 HT) is a WiFi only device (no cellular data) as you’ll recall, so the “Home inch designation is rather fitting. Archos says that you’ll be able to play video on the Archos 7 HT […]
