Galaxy Tab 2 Launch at MWC. Likely to be a 10-er

Posted on 27 January 2011

Progress is inevitable and yes, I suppose ‘evolution is fate.’ In this world of manufacturers and companies pushing for 12 month device churn and with platforms improving to offer a quicker route to market we can expect the pace to quicken but if you’re one of the ones in that area between purchase and 6 months ownership when that evolution is announced, it hurts! In this case, Samsung look to be announcing the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 at MWC under the banner ‘evolution is fate’ which, for about 1.2-1.5 million […]

HTC Flyer to enter 7″ Android Sector – Specs Revealed

Posted on 25 January 2011

It would be silly of HTC not to consider bringing an Android Tablet to the market. They’ve done a few tablet-like devices in the past but with the 7-10 inch consumer tablet sector booming, this is one that could set some seriously big sales numbers, especially given the maturity of Sense, HTCs well-respected user interface, utilities and applications suite. Looking at the rumored specs I see strong competition for the Galaxy Tab but there’s lots more to find out before it can be recommended. List of current 7″ Tablets from […]

Gigabyte S1080 Windows Tablet with Docking Ports. Hands-on Video.

Posted on 25 January 2011

Gigabyte launched a new Tablet PC at CES that we haven’t reported on yet. My fellow MeetMobility podcaster Sascha of Netbooknews has just had hands-on today so it’s worth plugging his video and talking a little about the device. Firstly, we’re talking about 10 inch capacitive touchscreen tablet at 900gm running Windows 7 on a netbook platform with the N570 (2×1.66Ghz) CPU. Usefully, there’s a built-in mouse area and left-and-right mouse buttons which is perfect for two-handed use. Unfortunately, there’s no digitiser so you’re left with a slight mismatch between […]

Tegra2 vs Atom in Browsing Test

Posted on 24 January 2011

I don’t have Honeycomb here and I don’t have the latest Atom platform here but in the video below I do have two devices that show the browsing speed differences between Tegra 2 and Atom. The Toshiba AC100 running the ‘old’ Android 2.1 build and the Gigabyte Touchnote running an ‘old’ Atom N270 are both mainstream builds and it’s worth taking a look at how the browsing speed compares. My estimate, following these tests, is that Android/Tegra is just one iteration (either software or hardware) away from matching what a […]

Nokia / Intel / Meego Phone at MWC – Highly Unlikely

Posted on 24 January 2011

I’ve been seeing a lot of talk and getting a lot of questions about a possible Nokia / Intel / MeeGo phone that could be launched at MWC. Rumors center around the Nokia N9 which is a slider phone said to be running MeeGo and to be launched at MWC. While it might be launching, I doubt very much it’s got Intel inside. I’ve already predicted 2012 for Intel/MeeGo smartphones because Moorestown’s 2-chip solution isn’t quite perfect for a high-end smartphone. Especially one with limited space for battery as in […]

Notion Ink Shows the Adam Unboxing Experience–Box Doubles as a Stand!

Posted on 21 January 2011

Over at Notion Ink’s official blog Rohan Shravan (CEO) has posted pictures of the shipping progress and several photos of the Adam being unboxed. They’ve done something neat here and actually put a bit of thought into the box that the Adam comes in. The box can function as a simple stand for the device which I think is a great idea. I always find it a shame when companies use nice materials for the boxes of their products, but in the end you can’t do much with it once you take your device out of it. I hope that Notion Ink’s little stand/box idea finds its way to other companies. Check out the unboxing after the break.
