The Samsung NP530 is the new 1.4KG Series 5 Ultrabook you saw launched in South Korea a short while back. We’ve now confirmed It’s coming to other countries soon as we’ve just spotted pre-order for it in Germany. The specifications and price are looking very competitive.

The Samsung Series 5 NP530 has a very similar specification to the Acer S3. Core i5 2467M / 1.6 GHz, 4GB RAM, 1366×768 13” screen, 500GB (+16GB SSD) hard drive. Apart from the 500GB drive (a Hybrid HDD/SSD) there’s not much difference. Even the weight – 1.4KG – is much the same. Samsung have even matched the Acer S3 down to the price. €799 is exactly the price of the Acer S3 in Europe.
There are some subtle differences though:
- Ports: You’re getting VGA, Ethernet, mic input and a USB3.0 port. The S3 has none of these.
- Memory: There’s a free memory slot
- Battery: You’ve got a 44Wh battery. Thats about 18% larger than the battery on the Acer S3
- Screen: Matt Finish
- Unknown at the moment: Keyboard backlight.
You’re also likely to be getting some Samsung quality in there too. They usually (!) make great keyboards, great screens and have some excellent power engineering and quiet fans.
According to some pre-order sites in Germany (E.g. Atelco) the NP530 should be available on the 21st Feb 2012. Still a few months away. That’s the painful bit!

Samsung is doing the same crap as Asus, coming out with countless of models and confusing the public. Instead of coming out with countless of models by wasting money on R & D, concentrate on your existing ultrabooks by lowering its prices.

Off topic. Need some advice Chippy. I just bought a Universal notebook charger for my notebook. On the charger it says 65W 19V-3.42A but on my notebook it oddly says 60W 19V -3.16.
Will this fry my notebook’s motherboard?
This brings about another topic. All these new ultralight and ultrabooks have different power inputs that make finding accessories difficult to find. To make matters worse, the manufacturer themselves say they don’t have additional chargers to sell.
This makes me worried cause, if something so simple they do not have spare parts, what more other things like batteries, motherboards etc.
THe charger figures are the ‘max’ it can deliver. It needs to be above what the laptop needs, as you have shown. The laptop will pull as much as it needs as long as the *voltages match*. Go ahead and try it out. There’s a very low risk that something will go wrong. (But always a risk with external chargers. I’ve had one device die because of a thrid-party charger!)

No, this external PSU will most definitely not (if working to the specs you listed, and it was actually made for the laptop {i.e. the connector spec and the +/- polarity on its connector match those expected by the laptop}) fry your laptop’s MB.
As long as the spec Voltage (in this case 19V) is the same, and the spec top long-term Power output of the PSU (in this case 65W) is higher than the top Power requirements of your laptop (in this case 60W), you’re fine.
thanks jk00079 for your kind reply. i am also quite concerned that although it says 19V for both, the notebook says 3.16A whilst the adapter says 3.42A. Is this of any concern?

Since this was the third book in the seeirs, he was not yet scraping the barrels of world fairy tales for the leavings; contrariwise, however, the first volume (Blue) has all of Ye Olde Stand-byes, while this and Red have tales just as wonderful that are less well known.Despite Lang’s flaws — most notably, his heroines have a way of turning passive — there are far worse ways to introduce a child to the spirit of wonder tales than this volume.
I’m looking at the keyboard on a Samsung NP350 I have here. It looks *exactly* the same. If that’s true, it’s a good keyboard. No backlight though.
