Demo: Touch and Sensor Support on Ultrabooks

Don’t expect touch to roll-out to the whole Ultrabook category but expect that Windows 8 will make manufacturers think about making touch-enabled options in their Ultrabook portfolios later in 2012. Sensors, on the other hand, could find themselves in most of the devices hitting the market. Location and context-sensitive applications in Metro apps could really boost the usefulness of an Ultrabook, especially with instant-on and smart/always connected features.

At the Intel Ultrabook CES media event this week we saw demonstrations of both touch and sensor support. After the presentation I tested it out for myself…

Do you know why BMW always breakdown? Its because mainly it has too many sensors. From sensors in the tyre to the windsecreen etc. So, the same thing would happen to ultrabooks. There would be a higher probability of malfunction and it would have to be sent in for repair, which, in other words, affect productivity.

Increased complexity in any device increases the probability that something can go wrong but that’s nothing new and is a trade off for possibly more or better functionality.

While let’s remember this isn’t new and untested technology they are considering but rather just it becoming more common outside of those devices that rely on it like tablets and smart phones.

So as long as they do a good job applying the new features then it shouldn’t be annoyingly prone to too many increased problems.

Though we could probably take this as a sign of the increased probability that we may see Ultrabooks start adopting designs similar to the Asus Transformer in the near future.

Both you and the Samsung NP350 look good here bro. Btw, is that beer you are drinking?
