Previously Leaked Asus Transformer 300 Revealed, Asus Taking the Transformer Prime Mainstream? [video]

Posted on 27 February 2012

Asus has taken the wraps off of the Eee Pad Transformer 300 series at MWC today. This model was leaked last month, and while the series (300) name led us to believe that this would be a full upgrade from the Transformer Prime (200), it seems like Asus is actually trying to create a more affordable mainstream version of the Transformer Prime. Here’s an intro video from Chippy with his hands on the Asus Eee Pad 300 series: httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogknMQfehyc The Eee Pad Transformer 300 is based on the quad-core Nvidia […]

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Brings Digital Inking and Photoshop to the Big Screen! [video and gallery]

Posted on 27 February 2012

Samsung has just announced the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet which features the same ‘S Pen’ active digitizer and stylus technology as found in the Galaxy Note smartphone. Back when the Galaxy Note was announced at IFA, Chippy and I bother remarked that we might enjoy the stylus functionality more on a tablet rather than a smartphone (thanks to the extra screen real estate, so I’m quite excited about this move from Samsung. Chippy has a hands on video of the Galaxy Note 10.1 straight form the MWC show floor: httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOGfTJ7djSo […]

Mirasol Transflective Displays. Faster, Brighter, Touch-Enabled. (Product Update Video)

Posted on 27 February 2012

Qualcomm gave us an update on Mirasol this morning. If you remember, Mirasol is a daylight-readable (transflective) display technology with color. The screen refresh rate and colour depth isn’t that good for video and photo experiences but for reading, it’s getting better every time I see it. Power-saving, daylight readable and now with touch and sidelight. Here’s an video in which I give you an update about timescales for mass production. (Expect products in 2013.)

Glasses Free 1080p 3D on Qualcomm Tablet

Posted on 27 February 2012

If there’s one place glasses-free 3D might work while it requires relatively direct-on viewing angles, it’s tablets. This 1080p demo from Qualcomm and Master Image 3D is a great example of it working well. Of course you won’t see it in this video but the effect was good. There were a few angles where the 3D effect wasn’t working so well but even off-centre, the effect was good. In a direct-on situation though, it’s quite immersive.

Intel Smartphone Demo – Opera 12, Asphalt 6 (Video)

Posted on 27 February 2012

We had time to get some more hands-on with the Intel Smartphone reference design here at MWC this morning. It feels powerful! Apart from an Intel-optimised build of Opera, Gameloft have also been porting over to the Intel platform. It’s worth noting that applications that don’t use any NDK, will run on the Intel Android platform without any modification. There’s an ARM-NDK emulation layer in there too so even some apps that do use ARM NDKs will work but for the best experience, ISVs are going to have to recompile […]
