New ASUS Ultrabooks UX31A and UX21A–Full HD and New Specs Uncovered

Posted on 13 March 2012 by

As reported previously, there will be new ASUS Zenbook Ultrabooks with Full HD displays soon. The previously reported news has been confirmed by The Verge who have picked up a full spec sheet for the new ASUS UX31A and UX21A models that will launch when Ivy Bridge goes into production.

The Verge is also confirming the backlit keyboard but adding information on various screen options that range from matte to gloss with different brightness ratings. I can’t imagine that all the variants (including 2GB and 4GB RAM versions and three Ivy Bridge CPU versions) will all make it to productions but it’s great to see that ASUS are attempting to raise the bar. There’s also a switch to an Intel WiFi module that supports Wireless Display. Let’s hope it’s a high-end Centrino module although to be honest, the UX21 and UX31 already have good quality Qualcomm Atheros WiFi modules.

SATA III SSD drives will be included, there will be an SDXC card reader (great for adding cheap removable storage to the device – SDXC manufacturers are expecting to hit the $1/GB mark soon we heard at CeBIT) and there will be Bluetooth 4 support which includes Bluetooth Low-Power and Bluetooth High Speed.

Finally, there’s a new keyboard design.

The Verge have some pricing and a few more bits of information so in the interests of link-love to our friends over at the Verge (was good to see you at CeBIT Vlad!) please click on through to read their scoop.

You can have all sorts of features but if your pricing is so ridicuolusly high, your product will die. This was seen even 10 years ago with ultra lights. Toshiba and Sony came out with all all sorts of features (eg fingerprint reader) and charged $5000 for their ultra light notebooks. There were no volume sales on that particular line and the line failed.

Why no more than 4gb ram. It’s really frustrating.

They just get it right same as all their motherboards.I agree more Gb of ram will be top but lets not forget that these memory work at 1600Mhz.Their Prices seems to be okay if I compare to What I pay for an HP EliteBook at more than £1,600.00 2 years ago.
