Gigabyte X11 and Luvbook X – Separated at Birth.

Leaked pictures of Gigabyte’s X11, the ‘Worlds lightest Ultrabook,’ show that it is in fact based on the same core design as Mouse Computers LuvBook X.  Carbon Fiber is the key to the light weight here. On the top, the LuxBook X. On the bottom, the Gigabyte X11

We tipped the Gigabyte X11 as an OEM build and possibly the Mouse Computers Luvbook X11. It looks like we were right. Pocket Lint has a set of images but no confirmation on specs. Maybe the LuvBook X can help us.

While there are some differences in the casing design here, there’s an unmistakable similarity in placement of hinge, ports and keyboard between the two.

The LuvBook X was already the lightest Ultrabook in the world so if we’re right,  don’t expect Gigabyte to have a laptop much less than the 980gm of the LuvBook X. The 11.6” display is likely to be the same 1366×768 part. The keyboard includes a backlight, Sentelic touchpad and a fast 120GB SSD. In a web-loading test, the LuvBook ran for 4.5hrs. [Source]

Given that the LuvBook X is based on Sandy Bridge and the new Ivy Bridge CPU is a 1:1 swap-out, it’s possible that the Gigabyte X11 will use Ivy Bridge although let’s be aware that Gigabyte may not be launching an Ivy Bridge version at this stage. Given pricing requirements and likely sales numbers, we think it’s likely that Gigabyte will stick to a Sandy Bridge laptop, especially as it’s being announced 5 days before the 2nd-Gen Ultrabook platform launches. According to our information, Mouse Computers own the design of the LuvBook. We doubt many of the specs differ at all from the LuvBook. Changing specifications can cost a lot of money and Gigabyte isn’t a huge company.

More images of the Gigabyte X11 at Pocket-Lint give us confirmation on the port types. It’s limited! Micro-SD is worth little, you’re likely to have to carry port adaptors for the Mini Display port and there’s only two USB3.0 ports.

The Gigabyte X11 is to launch in a matter of hours so stay tuned to see if we’re correct. Meanwhile, take a look at this new video of the LuvBook X and check out our LuvBook X specifications for more info.
