It looks like you can finally buy the Asus UX21A in America. It isn’t clear when Asus finally sent the 11-inch Ivy Bridge to U.S. shores, but those looking for a more portable Ultrabook experience can now get their hands on it.
For some reason, 11-inch Ultrabooks are rather rare in the U.S. Manufacturers are instead pushing larger 14-inch and 15-inch Ultrabooks here while they make available their 11-inch devices elsewhere. It could be because they believe there to be a relatively small market in the U.S. for 11-inch laptops — our latest poll seems to concur; when asked “What is the screen size on your ideal Ultrabook?” 11.6-inch came in last against 13.3-inch, 14-inch, and 15-inch Ultrabooks (though the poll was not restricted to any locale).
But that’s beside the point as the UX21A can now be bought in the United States!
Amazon is offering the UX21A for $799, which is actually cheaper than they’re asking for the older UX21E ($829). That price is also significantly cheaper than the MSRP which, according to Amazon, is $1,399.
The particular model that they are offering is the Asus UX21-1AK3:
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- Intel Core i5-3317U processor
- 4GB of RAM (1600MHz)
- 128GB SSD
- 11.6-inch 1366×768 display
- 2x USB 3.0 ports
- 3.5mm headphone/mic combo port
Not a bad deal at $799 from an Ultrabook manufacturer that we’ve come to enjoy! And if you look around elsewhere you might be able to find it even cheaper.
