Dell’s Latitude 6430u Ultrabook, their first Ultrabook in the Latitude line, has been put through MIL-STD-810 testing by GCN and came through with flying colors.
The Dell 6430u looks like a typical 14″ 1366×768 Ultrabook and sports the normal range of features like Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, optional mobile broadband and a decent range of ports with 2 USB 3.0 ports (1 USB/eSATA combo), Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, Stereo headphone/Microphone combo jack, Memory card reader, backlit keyboard and extra security features including optional SmartCard Reader/Fingerprint Reader.
It also has additional features designed to meet MIL-STD-810 standards like its magnesium alloy chassis, spill-resistant keyboard and protective LCD seal and fast solid state drive. Despite the extra protection the 6430u still comes in at a reasonable 13.31 inches by 9.04 inches by 0.82-inches and weighs 3.7 pounds.
GCN ran a raft of tests including shock testing and placing it in their Rainforest environment and the Dell was found to be equal to the task.
The Dell 6430u starts at $899 and can be had with up to a Core i7, 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD.
Interesting, but shame about the resolution. My X1C is also Milspec rated; I wonder how many others are? It’s great for peace of mind that a little bit of water probably won’t ruin it if spilled into the keyboard.

Since Lenovo has bought the ThinkPad line, they have stopped providing any numbers on the MIL-STD tests. The thing about these standards is that a product can be advertised as passing without any actual tests being done. So without the numbers, no one should take the MIL-STD marketing seriously.
