Fujitsu Q702 Hybrid in-use at MWC

Posted on 24 February 2013

After all the Clovertrail testing last week the plans to take a consumer tablet to MWC took a turn at the last minute. The Fujitsu Q702 turned up for testing and it bumped itself to the top of the list based on some amazing specs; the first and most important of which is a total 70Wh battery with 44Wh of that as a replaceable in the base. Hot-swap goodness! Depending on your stance, this Fujitu Q702 is either a 11.6 inch ultra mobile PC a tablet that weighs 850gm and […]

With Intel in Barcelona. Focus: Software Development.

Posted on 23 February 2013

A big thanks to Intel for their support in getting me to Barcelona to cover the huge event that is Mobile World Congress. Mobile World Congress is pretty much THE event for mobile computing and while it’s primarily focused on those things that nearly don’t fit in pockets any more, there’s a growing software component to it. This year Intel is at MWC for a number of reasons. You’ll hear about their mobile phone platform, you’ll hear about their tablet platform, you’ll here about Intel Tablets in general and you’ll […]

Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 Hybrid Ultrabook Unboxing and Overview

Posted on 22 February 2013

Fancy 70WH of battery in your Ultrabook? For those that don’t know how significant this is, it’s the best battery capacity we’ve seen so far in the 11.6” segment and it beats nearly all other Ultrabooks. Only the Fujisu U772 has more, but not by much. The Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 doesn’t stop there. I’ve unboxed and I’m impressed at the specs, ports and capability. There’s another first here too. Matt capacative touchscreen with digitizer!

AMD Temash seems Well-Positioned for Mobile Win 8

Posted on 22 February 2013

I wrote  about AMD Temash yesterday at Ultrabooknews but it’s a solution that reaches into ultra mobile PC space too and it means I have to write two articles! Although it’s an Ultrabook-class processor, it’s down-clocked, has a Turbo feature and sits in the 4-6W TDP range. It’s an SoC too so this solution now becomes a very interesting competitor to both Clovertrail  and Ivy Bridge. It’s possible to get Ivy Bridge into a tablet see the Surface Pro but AMD Temash, like the Fusion solutions that were introduced for Netbooks, […]

AMD Turbo Dock Teaser and Temash Performance Figures

Posted on 21 February 2013

AMD will be at MWC next week to highlight their Temash range of  Windows 8 tablet SoCs. They’ve release a teaser for what they call a Turbo Dock system and given away  a few performance specs at the same time. It looks nicely positioned between Intel Clovertrail and Ivy Bridge solutions.

Samsung ATIV 500T SmartPC Update (Working Dock, 3G, GPS and NFC)

Posted on 20 February 2013

I must be nuts. I’ve just paid 900 Euro for an Atom-based notebook. Or am I? A few days ago I bought the Samsung ATIV 500T after a disappointing time with the Lenovo Lynx keyboard (of all things Lenovo!) The unboxing went well until I spotted a connectivity problem between the dock and the tablet. I really wasn’t very happy. Today I swapped it out for a new one. I also spotted the 3G version in stock so I end up paying 899 Euro. It’s more expensive than at other […]

Microsoft Surface Pro Review

Posted on 20 February 2013

When Microsoft first announced the Surface tablets back in June 2012 they didn’t reveal much about the Surface Pro other than it would run an Intel processor and launch 90 days after the RT version launched on October 26. It wasn’t until November that Microsoft provided more info on price and hardware specifications. Last weekend I was lucky enough to pick up a retail version. Here’s my review.
