Windows 8.1 Includes Features for Small Windows Tablets

Microsoft have announced a focus on small Windows tablets, a Windows 8.1 preview download and have detailed changes for small screens. Changes include a new keyboard with gesture features, new Windowing for the Metro UI, layout changes (see right) and more. Here’s a few of the key features that have just been announced.

Samsung are launching, as I type, the Samsung ATIV Book Q… A hybrid with another completely new design, QuadHD+ (3200×1800) and weighing 1.2KG. Based on Haswell (Core i5 4200U with HD 4400 is confirmed as one of the options.)

MyDigitalSSD BP4 Review and Upgrade How-To

MyDigitalSSD sent over two of their BulletProof 4 SSDs for testing recently so I immediately took the opportunity to upgrade an  older Toshiba Z830 Ultrabook. The difference was noticeable, but not as noticeable as the upgrade on the Acer Aspire V5-122P– an AMD-based low-cost Windows 8 touchscreen sub-notebook which was running a 500GB spinning hard drive. MacBook Air Refreshed with Haswell, Boasts 9+ Hours of Battery Life. Available Now.

Yesterday at Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC, the company revealed a refreshed version of the MacBook Air, the company’s thin-and-light Ultrabook competitor. Both 11-inch and 13-inch versions are getting Intel’s latest Haswell chips. Apple claims 9 hours of battery life for the 11-inch Air and 12 hours for the 13-inch. While critics have called Ultrabooks ‘MacBook Air Clones’, Apple may be falling behind.

2007 UMPC Back In Service thanks to Uniqueness

My Samsung Q1b, a 2007-era ultra mobile PC based on a VIA C7 CPU and including 3G was one of my most mobile UMPCs. I used it, without plugging it in to mains power, for 10 days.
