Today HP unveiled a new range of business oriented laptops in their ProBook and EliteBook lines and 2 models from the latter range, the 840 & 850, could be a candidate for your next Ultrabook with Haswell, backlit keyboards and more.

The EliteBook 840 G1 and 850 G1 come with 14″ and 15.6″ screens respectively and are heavy on business features like vPro Haswell CPUs, TPM, SmartCard reader, VGA port, gigabit Ethernet port and docking connector. HP is also bundling their Trust Circles functionality which restricts access to certain files to assigned contacts and for storage there will be a choice of SSD, HDD or hybrid drives. Components can easily be upgraded via the easily removable back cover. Rounding off the business features both Ultrabooks are compliant with MIL-SPEC-810G for that extra durability and ruggedness.

It will be available with a Core i5, Intel HD 4400 graphics and up to 8GB RAM. Battery runtime is rated at 12 hours but a slice battery will also be available to take that to 33 hours.

The 850 weighs in at 4.15 pounds and will come with either a Core i5 or i7 Haswell chip and up to 16GB RAM. Graphics will be either standard Intel HD4400 or AMD Radeon HD 8750M. The 850 is also rated at 12 hours battery life but has no option for an extra battery.

Do EliteBooks have page scrolling capabilities with the trackpoint?

    • efjay

Don’t think they come with a trackpoint.

They have a trackpoint, but at least the 14 inch models have only two buttons with it. Not sure about 15.

  • No 10 key
    No DVD drive
Does not look near as rugged as the 8560p
Not a business notebook in my book.

  • The advantage of computers and its related technology has
made a lot of adjustment and changes in the business sector but in a
very good way. Apple batteries need a cycle of discharging to 3%
and then fully charging twice a week. In
conclusion, Asus is the brand to go for reliability, and they even put out laptops with
    decent specs.
