A lot of you have asked about the differences between the Lenovo Miix 2 10 and the ASUS Transformer Book T100 so I’ve been onto Intel Germany and they’ve helped us out with a T100 for us to test with. All your questions will be answered soon!

Lenovo Miix 2 Price Drops to $599. 64GB at $499 (USA)

Posted on 31 January 2014

After a wobbly start in the US I think the Lenovo Miix 2 is about to take off. Lenovo have dropped the unexpectedly high price for the 128GB model to $599 and now offer the 64GB version at $499. With that they’ve made good on their original pricing plan. The price is $100 more than you can find the ASUS T100 for though and that option, which has been very […]

3 Lenovo Miix 2 10 Demo Videos

Posted on 31 January 2014

You might get the impression that I like the Lenovo Miix 2 10 when you see how much time I’ve spent with it recently. I’ve just produced 3 new videos, in addition to the unboxing video and there’s lots of testing going on. The truth is that I am really enjoying this tablet-first device. Like the ASUS Transformer T100 I think it’s going to be a big seller as a […]

Lenovo Miix 2 10 (Baytrail-T 2-in-1) Unboxing

Posted on 28 January 2014

The Lenovo Miix 2 10 is now available in Europe and, lucky for us, in stock near the UMPCPortal office. Here’s an unboxing of the little fella which, so far, seems to be excellent value for money. An 18-minute unboxing and overview demo is available below. I paid 369 469 Euros at Conrad in Bonn and got the 64GB version with 1090×1200 screen, keyboard dock and Z3740 CPU and so far […]

Lenovo Yoga 2 11S with 64-Bit Baytrail for $499 (or £499)

Posted on 27 January 2014

As we expected, the new Yoga 2 11S is going to be one for the masses. It’s been spotted for $499. The Pentium N3510 doesn’t have some of the features of the Core processors and there’s a spinning hard drive but in this market, maybe that’s not important. The Lenovo Yoga 2 11 could be a great mass-market subnotebook.

WiGig Ramps up at Dell and Wilocity

Posted on 25 January 2014

WiGig is a technology that has the potential to change the way you use computers and having tracked it since 2012 I’m hoping it’s close to maturity. With Wilocity announcing that they’ve shipped 1 million WiGig chips it’s a good sign that we’re nearing the point where the technology will start appearing on customers wish-lists.

CES 2014: ThinkPad Yoga Hands-on—Retractable Keyboard and the Best Trackpad Ever!

Posted on 23 January 2014

Intel had an impressive showing of convertible devices at the annual CES 2014 convention two weeks ago. Among an array of Ultrabooks was the new 12.5 inch ThinkPad Yoga which I got to check out for the first time. Beyond Lenovo’s classic ‘Yoga’ convertible mechanism is a smart retractable keyboard and an amazing trackpad.

Three Ivy-Bridge Ultrabook Offers

Posted on 21 January 2014

Ultrabooks with 3rd-Gen Cores from the 2012/2013 generation are starting to fade from the tier-1 retailers’ shelves leaving some special offers with the smaller retailers and bulk discounters as they pick up unwanted stock. I’ve taken a closer look through the Amazon stores to see if I can find any good value deals and picked out a power-Ultrabook, a stylish Ultrabook and a convertible Ultrabook for you to take a […]

Photographer Feedback on the Lenovo Yoga Pro 2

Posted on 16 January 2014

I’ve been having an email conversation with Lance, a photographer, for a number of weeks on the subject of Ultrabooks for Photographers. Lance was looking for a new mobile notebook for his nature photography work and after some testing and a lot of thought from both sides he finally went for the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. Lance has now written an article on his requirements and experiences with the Lenovo […]

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Review

Posted on 14 January 2014

It’s one of the most Ultraboooky Ultrabooks out there. The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro sits with the Sony Vaio Pro 13 and the Samsung ATIV Book 9 as showcase devices that are fast, light, stylish and very very usable. The Yoga 2 Pro, however, differs in that it’s a convertible. You wouldn’t know it at first glance though because it’s under 16mm thick and weighs just 1400 grams / 3 […]

Acer’s Ultrabook ‘Mistake.’

Posted on 14 January 2014

In a report by Bloomberg the Acer CEO is said to have blamed early Ultrabook and touchscreen investments as a mistake. Acer had problems in 2013 as share value dropped following poor sales results. “We need to dig ourselves out of a hole.” Jason Chen said. This is a story that will bounce around a bit today.

Your Tips – What’s The Best Notebook Keyboard?

Posted on 12 January 2014

It’s probably more important than the screen – the keyboard – part of the holy trinity of notebook priorites. K-V-M. I asked the question on Google Plus yesterday – What was your best experience? I got a large number of responses that were fairly varied. That shouldn’t be a surprise as we all type at different angles, weights and with differing requirements for numeric keypads, F&J locating bumps, function keys, […]
