Lenovo Yoga 3 11. Refined, again.

Posted on 08 January 2015

The 11-inch Yoga got a significant upgrade when Lenovo launched the Yoga 3 11 this week. It’s a fanless Core M based convertible that now has a Full HD screen, a redesigned casing and hinge, has a power connector that doubles-up as a third USB port and it weighs just 1.1KG (2.4 pounds.) The starting price is $799 which, as we all know, means is will probably sell for a street price of $750 or even $699 with promotions. There’s no backlit keyboard and the battery is relatively small but […]

Toshiba Satellite Click Mini. Details and Size Comparison.

Posted on 07 January 2015

Things are hotting-up in the 8.9-inch Windows detachable sector with Toshiba announcing something that’s going to go head-to-head with the ASUS Transformer Book T90 Chi. The Toshiba Satellite Click Mini beats the T90 Chi on some specifications, but not on others. At 1KG (2.2 pounds) exactly the Toshiba Satellite Click 2 with its docking keyboard isn’t as light as the T90 Chi but there’s a reason for that. The keyboard isn’t just a Bluetooth keyboard but a true docking keyboard with USB port, charging port and battery. Video playback battery life is […]

ASUS Transformer Book T90 Chi hands-on shows digitizer, more specs.

Posted on 05 January 2015

Fresh from the ASUS press conference at CES 2015 is this hands-on video of the Transformer Book T90 Chi. This is the Atom-based (Z3775) 8.9-inch tablet and dock that weighs just 850 grams together and starts at $299. it looks like a tidy combination and the pen (no stowage) is going to make this a really interesting all-round UMPC. We expect the pen to be an additional cost but even if this comes in at $350 it’s not a bad deal. A 64GB SSD might cost you another $50 so budget […]

ASUS have just launched three devices under the Chi brand. The 12.5-inch T300, 10.1-inch T100 and the 8.9-inch T90. We’ve seen the T300 Chi before through an accidental hands-on. It will launch with a Full HD display, Core M CPU and 128GB SSD for $699 in February. The ASUS T100 Chi is an Atom-based 2-in-1 much the same as the T100 that already exists. A Full HD screen, a year of Office 365, 2GB RAM and 64GB storage will cost you $399. Finally the T90 Chi is an 8.9-inch tablet […]

Broadwell-U Processors officially launch. Here’s a performance, battery life and features round-up.

Posted on 05 January 2015

Just a few days ago I was tempted to wrap up this site. The Intel Ultrabook project was finished a long time ago and new products using the trademark had tailed-off. The segment got a bit fuzzy and when Samsung announced that the Ativ Book 9 would relaunch with a Core M processor I was ready to continue the story of ultra mobile laptops at UMPCPortal. Today this site’s near-future has been secured thanks to activities at CES in Las Vegas. The Lenovo X1 Carbon got a refresh with the […]

Double Firsts for Acer’s 15-inch Broadwell Chromebook.

Posted on 03 January 2015

It’s Saturday night and US-based PR and marketing teams are working hard which can only mean one thing – CES is about to kick off. Acer is in the ring and have already delivered a one-two punch by announcing the Chromebook 15 (CB5-571) with, you guessed it, a 15.6-inch screen. It’s also the first Chromebook to run on 5th-generation Intel Core architecture. With a Full HD screen option and upward-facing speakers this could at least be one for the Netflix fans.
