Samsung Series 7 Slate PC Hands-On Images

Posted on 06 September 2011

You’ve seen the hands-on video and the blinding speeds of the CPU and disk of the Samsung Slate PC but you still might be hungry for more. I am!  The Samsung Series 7 Slate PC is a seriously impressive bit of engineering and proof that Core i5 can be designed into a chassis of under 900gm. The Slate PC will come with dock and keyboard for an estimated 1100 Euro entry-level […]

Mobile Reporting Kit V10 – ‘No-Bag Blogging’ at IFA

Posted on 28 August 2011

Update: I’ve refined the kit down to 700gm (1.5lb) but I’m struggling to find a no-bag carrying solution. Cargo pants are out for me (not my style) and it’s going to be too warm for a jacket. I may go with a 200gm Jack Wolfskin Body Bag. At 1040gms including Wallet and glasses, not a single X86 processor in sight and a cost of around €750 this is one of the […]

45 Mbps LTE Demonstrated in Cologne Germany

Posted on 16 June 2011

Thanks to (Deutsche) Telekom in Germany we had a nice hands-on with the first LTE service here in Koeln (Cologne.)  At 80 euro per month this is clearly a premium service but if you can justify it in and around Koeln, its a super high speed service. We measured 45Mbps this evening! This is obviously the first phase; more devices and tariff options will feed in and it goes hand-in-hand […]

Posted on 01 June 2011

AMD announced the Z-01 tablet-focused Fusion platform today and Netbooknews have already tracked down the first product to be built on it. Here’s the proof that the MSI Windpad 110W has the Z-01 APU Netbooknews are seeing 2GB of RAM (the platform support 4GB in theory) a 4200mah battery (probably 30wh in total) and a 32GB SSD. That Intel Medfield / Android Tablet

Posted on 01 June 2011

It’s a crossover point when Intel demonstrate a mobile operating system that grew on ARM devices, on their i86 platform and that’s what happened yesterday. I played around with an image from the Intel pressroom and here’s the Medfield tablet running Honeycomb. Looks like 7” to me and designed for Android 2.x rather than 3.x (See buttons.) Interestingly, most of the PR around Medfield talks about tablets and not smartphones. […]

FIC Tycoon+ offers Improved Windows Tablet

Posted on 31 May 2011

First International Computer gave me a T-Shirt last year after we reviewed their N450 based ‘Tycoon’ tablet and strangely enough, I’m wearing it today as I read their press release! We were impressed with the screen and build quality and thought they might have a chance for some sales. At that time FIC said they were also looking to do a reference design with Oaktrail so I was a little […]

Top Tablets Together, Live

Posted on 17 May 2011

This is totally unplanned so it should work out perfectly! Update: The Live Session is over. I’ll be writing a follow-up soon but please check out the recorded videos on YouTube – They’re well worth watching. Late notice: Sascha has turned up in my neighborhood with the Playbook, Transformer and iPad2. I have the Tab 7, HTC Flyer, and Iconia Tab A500 in the studio so it makes sense, while […]
