Moblin v2.1 (for Netbooks) Release. Roadmap.

Posted on 05 November 2009

No, this isn’t Moblin 2.1 for handhelds but it’s a step in the right direction along the roadmap (shown in article.) As 2.1 for handhelds feeds in (due for a beta release before the end of the year) the two branches of 2.1 should merge to make way for a unified OS that can support MIDs (on Moorestown) UMPCS (with some tweaking of drivers to support Menlow) and the netbooks and nettops that this new release of Moblin is aimed at. Moblin 2.1 for netbooks is now available for download.

Moblin. Smooth, Slim and in need of an App store.

Posted on 14 August 2009

Geek.com recently published an update to their Moblin 2 review noting some major improvements to the OS. Sure enough, when I revisited it on a Medion Akoya (MSI Wind equivalent) the experience was very slick and trouble-free. It’s a smooth and slim operating system for sure but is it enough for today’s netbook and mobile computer users?

News from the Maemo weekend in Copenhagen; Canonical will switch to Maemo-derivative Mer from the Moblin 1.0 build for it’s Ubuntu MID derivative. Moblin 2.0 is no longer MID-focused so it looks like Intel have just lost a significant partner in their MID ecosystem.
