VIA Mobile-ITX Product Announcement Is Re-Announced.

Posted on 01 December 2009

It was June 2007 when we first got excited about the Mobile-ITX platform from VIA. It promised PC-like performance in a small and efficient motherboard and it looked like it would allow slicker, more efficient UMPC designs. Over 2 years later, the Mobile-ITX product re-surfaces.

Sascha talks to Intel about Netbooks and the Atom Developer Program (Video)

Posted on 02 October 2009

Sascha Pallenberg (from Netbooknews.com and our Meet:Mobility podcast) was pulled to one side by Amy Barton at the Intel Developer Forum to talk about the Intel Atom Developer Program and you can see the result in the video. One take-away I got form this. 30 million iPhones exist but a similar number of netbooks have been sold. The developer program and app-store isn’t just for Moblin, it’s for Windows too so there’s a massive opportunity out there.

Moorestown and Pinetrail graphics core thoughts. GMA500 likely.

Posted on 26 September 2009

One of the things I expected to find out at the Intel Developer Forum this year were details about Pinetrail and Moorestown graphics. GMA950 on the current netbook platform clearly needs a boost in the video codec department and…

Digitimes: Intel to suspend Atom Z sales to netbook makers.

Posted on 31 July 2009

Be careful how you read this story. Some people are taking it as meaning there will be no more Z-Series; possibly forgeting that there is a Z-series market outside the netbook market.

Intel’s Moorestown Platform. From Smartphone Through Smartbook and Beyond.

I wrote an update on Moorestown last week over at MIDMoves.com but I want to expand on that here on UMPCPortal today because I really think that the new information we have now is extremely significant for the core audience here. Moorestown is the first computing platform that covers my definition of ultra mobile computing. Intel Investor Presentation Highlights Smartphone Push.

Posted on 15 May 2009

We’re not quite sure if we’re supposed to have this PDF but it’s just landed in our lap and we don’t see any confidential markings so we might as well relay the info. It’s a slide set from an investor meeting from the Ultra Mobility group and it highlights a few interesting points about Moorestown and Medfield. It appears to be dated 05_2009 so it’s very recent.

Medfield. One Step Beyond Moorestown.

Posted on 14 May 2009

I’m very reluctant to be talking about Medfield. It’s the codename for the system-on-chip that Intel are working on for 2011. That’s the next step after Moorestown which is still at least half a year away. We’re still waiting for…
