On all the press releases and original spec lists (including the Samsung UK page) they all state that the Q1 will have a DMB aerial and that it will also have GPS Navigation capabilities out of the box...

In fact there are even pictures of people extending / retracting the aerial...

However, in both the manual and on the websites that are allowing PRE ORDERS neither of these two functions inc. the aerial are mentioned.

In fact recent pictures show the aerial is totally missing...

What the frack's going on with Samsung? Are they expecting us to purchase the 1st gen based on original footage and specs, but send us a less model for the same amount of cash?

And btw Roy and Matt, you seem to be getting into a muddle with the pronounciation of Sudoku...don't worry I did too.., but from hearing the 'experts' talk about it all the time here in the UK, I believe that the correct way is said like this

Back to the point - does anyone have any close ties with anyone in Samsung to get clairification? I've tried every web site / phone number I've found and not a single person can clarify.

I mean, having pre ordered it, and now finding this out, if after about 1 month of being released they release another version with the extras or / and increased HD / Ram / CPU I'm so gonna be pissed at them...

I EXPECT that from the 2nd gen releases, but I'm getting a funny feeling that they are gonna be pitching multiple options of the 1st Gen release, but not until they've tested the market with the cut down one for full price!

As for the questions about the specs, that is a good question. I also agree that samsung is hard to get a hold of. The last number I got to get ahold of someone that would know something about it is 01932 455 000.

I would suppose that whatever specs they provide would be what they deliver, however, it is strange to show a device early with ohther features and release a different one. but I guess thats what happens when you start talking about a device before it's finalized.

Well I've been all Nancy Drew'ing this morning and here are the results...

First off I called Samsung UK. Spoke to the Notebook support dept (told to speak to them) and spoke to a nice young man who knew a bit about the Origami but was almost just as excited about the unit as I am...

The first question I asked was about the GPS / DMB specs that are mentioned on the Samsung UK Q1 homepage but NOT on any resellers and he thought that this could be down to Samsung releasing two different models.

One without these options to the European market, and that will be released first - probably June, and the second with these options to the UK market in late July. Nothing he knew about the US / Canadian market.

His point of view was that if Samsung UK website said it had or didn't have something then that was the master control document and the most likely accurate place for a UK spec list.

The second thing I asked was about an option (like Tabletkiosk) to upgrade the ram to 1 gig - as I'm sure everyone who saw JK's video would want - that machine just fly's...

He said that as far as he knew Samsung had not finalised the spec of the unit and were not sure if it would even take 1gig. Until that was worked out any optional expansions / addons would not be decided.

Samsung UK have two warranty packages, Fast Guard and Fast Cover, the first being a hardware warranty that you can add 1 or 2 years to a notebook (and by association the Origami) and the second is to guard against accidental damage and theft.

The first SHOULD be available around the launch time but there are questions about the second - being such a small ff device and must more 'stealable' / 'dropable' they were not sure if Samsung was going to change their cover for this device or just not offer it at all.

I then asked about the accessories that are listed on the Q1 Leaflet pdf, and was told to talk to Romtronics the primary UK reseller for Samsung accesories and parts.

I spoke to two nice people there and asked the same questions above and got the same sort of responses EXCEPT about the DMB aerial.

Apparently, one of their 'techies' had spoken to a Samsung 'techie' and was told originally that the DMB aerial was only available on the European / US markets. The UK model would NOT have it, but on the most recent meet with the Samsung guy it was hinted that he 'watch this space' hinting that it might just get released here...but whether that would be an add on, or different model after release nobody knows.

I personally think it would be a mistake to not included it here - the UK gets it's first DMB service start up this year and what better device to herald that new technology than to show off the extra capabilities of an Origami?

Other than that both the guys at Samsung and the kind people at Romtronics are both DESPERATE to get solid details and their grubby little mits on these devices...

...so say we all!!!

The FCC Manual does not mention either the aerial, the DMB or GPS in any way.

The Q1 Leaflet PDF which does show the aerial, if you look in the top right corner of the specs it says DMB(KOR)

I take that to mean only the Korean Q1's will have the aerial.

Still nowhere mentions the Gps.

On a good news note the same doc mentions alternate processor support upto Pentium M 1.2 Ghz

And the FCC Manual mentions ram upto 1GB!
