Everun Note testing notes. Q&A

As usual, I want to capture my testing notes in the forum and take feedback and questions from users.

The Note should arrive sometime in the next 24hrs (It left the Phillipines over 24hrs ago but I don't see an update yet.)

There are other people receiving them too over the next week and some that have them already.

I've already had a tip-off that there's no significant heat build up and that 2-3 hrs on the battery is a reasonable expectation. The external battery should power the device for up to 12 hours.
2-3hrs means 7-10W drain average. Much the same as netbooks but with more processing and video power. THe battery is only a little bit smaller than the one you find on the Acer Aspire One and MSI Wind (3-cell)

There's a case available and talk about more accessories!

So feel free to register and put your questions in the forum here. Subscribe to this thread ('Notify me of new posts in this thread ') and enjoy the coverage.

I'll be going live within hours (possibly minutes!) of receiving the device and doing an unboxing. Then I'll be doing some testing and setting up for a good few hours live session later that day. Cams will be on all the time so feel free to visit http://www.umpcportal.com/live at any time and ask questions.

Steve.

Live session is planned for 3PM eastern US, 1900 GMT, 2100 CET (Germany)
The cam will be on while I do the unboxing video and preparation but the times depend on Fedex delivery. (Its in the van and on the last leg of its journey from Cologne to Bonn.)

It appears that we all do most of our talking in the comments and live sesions now! Not that I mind. Its generally easier to keep an eye on the comments.

FOr those that are interested, the video of the first section of the live session is available for viewing.

I'll be putting together an FAQ and first impressions over the weekend.

The gallery is already available.

3D Mark 2001 SE scores

Mains power
1024x600x32
3998

MSI Wind at the same resolution, mains power.
2884

Everun Note on battery power, high 3D settings (powernow adjusted to high)
2148

So the netbook platform wins for mobile gaming under battery power!

Now for crystal mark details...

Mains powered CM2004R2 test reults:

Everun Note - 39777
MSI Wind - 26684
Samung R40 laptop (similar price) - 55203

The CPU is approximately 2x the power of the Atom 1.6ghz.
Memory speed is amazingly impressive. (Better than my 1 year old Core2Duo 1.6Ghz laptop!)
Disk speeds are average at around 18MB/s R/W. MSI Wind is almost double that so a fast SSD on the Everun Note would push the scores up a lot and make a noticeable difference.

Open Gl performance on the Note is 3x the GMA950 on the MSI WInd.

CPU Power on the Everun Note is about 0.6x the power of a Core2Duo at 1.6Ghz.

CPUID says that its a 1.8Ghz CPU part! I wonder if its overclockable! (Heat is the issue here)

Details below.

CrystlMark under battery power.

Everun Note - 23654
MSI Wind and R40 are able to run at full power.

Details below. Under battery power, the MSI Wind is better although the disk speeds account for a lot of the difference. The everage user wont notice an difference between the two devices under battery power.

Is it possible to get picture of the Everun on top of and beside the Everun Note?

Is the Everun note pocketable in a suit jacket side pocket?

Thanks

Overnight standby drain test.

In 6 hours, 11% lost.

Approx 2% per hour

Could you check if vcore is accesible in the bios?
Could help with overclocking or general heat/energy drain.

What's the voltage of the DC jack? 5V, 12V or 15V? Thanks.

Thanks, this gives me one more reason to buy this Everun Note over the U820. This allows me to carry just one 5V ac adapter to charge all my portable devices including smartphone. This also makes it very easy to make my own external power.

I'm sure the U820 is the best for bed with one hand. How's this Note in bed?

Also, is it possible to set the screen to 1280 (interpolated or virtual/expanded, like my OQO)?

A picture showing the miniPCI slot would be great. Is the antenna for 3G module present?

Again, thanks for all your fantastic work, as always.
