Asus UX51 / U500 Details in the Database; to Be or Not to Be an Ultrabook?


Asus U500 details thus far revealed have been added to our database. There seems to be some confusion about whether or not the U500 is an Ultrabook. If the specs we’re seeing are accurate — a quad-core i7 ‘QM’ processor — it is definitely not an Ultrabook. However there seems to be quite a bit of confusion regarding that fact.

TaiChi, Transformer Book, Zenbook Touch, Vivo Book, and Vivo Tab Revealed — Asus Windows 8 Lineup


Asus has prepared a full device assault to coincide with the launch of Windows 8. Tomorrow at 2PM EST the company will be unveiling their Windows 8 lineup at their Windows 8 touch teaser site. Though Asus is trying to tease the identity of the lineup (see icons below with no names) a quick look into the website source reveals the names of these devices: TaiChi, Transformer Book, Zenbook Touch, Vivo Book, and Vivo Tab (not that we couldn’t have guessed before!) [there’s also an AIO touchscreen desktop but that doesn’t really concern us!].

Official Site Reveals Asus S46 and S56 Ultrabook Specs, Integrated and Discrete Graphics Available. Hitting the Market Soon?


We’ve seen most of what there is to see regarding Asus’ upcoming S46 and S56 Ultrabooks except for one important piece of information: the release date. We caught a glimpse of the units at Computex back in June and earlier in August Asus officially announced them. Now they inch closer to market as Asus has revealed them on their website including a rundown of official specs. While it was once thought that the new Ultrabooks would include discrete graphics by default, the official specs indicate that an integrated graphics variant of each model will also be available. The optical drive is now listed as ‘optional’ as well.

New Asus Zenbook UX31A, UX32A, and UX32VD Available Through Amazon US and DE


The much anticipated UX31A and UX32VD Ultrabooks from Asus are finally available from Amazon US and . The UX31A, which starts at a very reasonable price, is being marketed by Asus as the ‘Zenbook Prime’ which we’ve been hearing about over the last few months. According to Asus, a Zenbook achieves the ‘Prime’ denotation as long as it has the 1080p IPS display, SSD, and a backlit keyboard. The UX32VD is thus being marketed simply as a Zenbook because it lacks the SSD.

ASUS Optimistic about Zenbook Ultrabooks, New Models in May


Following our report that ASUS will be updating the UX Zenbook series and are tentatively planning a launch in May we now have an official statement that new ASUS Ultrabooks will indeed come in May. Prices will be attractive too.

At an investor conference Executive Officer Jerry Shen said there would be ‘a number’ of new models to cover each price segment with price possible starting at US$699

Hot Pink ASUS Ultrabook at CES


We’ve just spent some time with Asus  looking around a selection of the products being shown at CES this week. Unfortunately there are no new Ultrabooks being shown but there’s a “Hot Pink” UX21 here. Not for the faint hearted (Or maybe it is!)

An ASUS representative tells us that the next Asus Ultrabooks will be launched in the April timeframe and will be Ivy Bridge based. No details were given.
