Carputer news via jk

jkOnTheRun are doing an excellent job of picking up carputer news. There were two posts yesterday.

The first shows a VIA Mini-ITX based carputer (funnily enough, based on exactly the same MiniPC that I photographed yesterday.)  Its called the UVIA M100 from Unwired Vehicles and its focus appears to be Video and Live TV over 3G data networks using the Slingbox platform. It has a 15″ flip-down screen and uses the Unwired Vehicle infotainment software package. Also included is an external cellular antenna. Price: $3500.

Its not a ultra mobile PC but as I said yesterday, I think that the ultra mobile PC platform will be the next step for enthusiasts. Oh, its already here…

The second news item from jk shows a Sony UX UMPC built into the headrest of a Toyota Sema hybrid vehicle. Autoblog has the full story.

The Carputer market is getting more interesting day by day. Not only am I going to have to keep an eye on the Uber-PMPs but now it looks like I’ll have to load up a few Carputer feeds into my RSS reader. 2007 is going to be a busy year.
