Expect one cool mobile Internet device after another this week as news floods through from Barcelona.
From the Sony press release:
- Convergence of multimedia entertainment and mobile Web communication
- Unique arc slider with wide pitch easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard
- XPERIAâ„¢ panels – arrange as you want for easy access
- Enjoy multimedia entertainment on bright wide VGA display
- Windows Mobile® capabilities
Basically its a highly stylised version of the two devices I was talking about earlier with overlay software. Here’s a video of the ‘Xperia Panels’
As with all the Windows Mobile devices you’ll need to add a better browser but with an 800×480 screen, this one is going to be awesome (assuming you have the 20:20 vision to handle this super-high res.)
Pricing: Unknown (you can bet this thing is going to be way above $600)
Release date: ‘Selected markets in the second half of 2008.’

opera mobile or netfront should do nicely on that one. sadly it only comes with IE mobile out of the box, and thats strange given that the other mobiles SE announced either had netfront or opera.
even the very choice of windows mobile is strange given SE’s 50% share of UIQ, one of the two symbian variants out there.
still, given that it has WM, one question comes to mind: will it do redfly?!
I WANT, I WANT, I WANT!!! And to think I was just about to get myself the TyTn II.
I wonder whether browsers like Opera Mini/Mobile or NetFront will be able to properly support high-pixel density screens like this? 800×480 would be great for Opera Mini’s preview mode but not so good for thoe zoomed-in mode.
I wonder whether this thing has GPS… aGPS is mentioned in the specs but no other details are available.
Kong.
It’s got GPS. A-GPS (assisted) is normal GPS plus software that speeds up a lock by determining your rough area by using ip address lookups (requires internet)
