I’m finally back in a zone where I can post news again and when I say ‘zone’ I mean it in the loosest sense of the word. I’ve had good coverage and equipment with me for my trip to the UK (including sitting on this ship to France) but due to the distractions of a superb wedding weekend in the UK to celebrate the marriage of my Sister i’ve been off the grid. Its been great!

Over the next 24hrs i’ll be catching up with what’s happened over the last 4 days but on first glance it doesn’t appear that much has happened at all. What on earth happened to the MIDs at Computex? Are they all being kept out of site for final polishing before launch?

I’m planning to do a Computex update podcast with Sascha and JKK as soon as we can get everyone awake at the same time. Stay tuned.

Thanks God you’re back finally! :)

By the way, I’ve heard a rumor that HP will make 10.2 inch mininote.

  2. DrNick says:

Congratulations to your sister, Chippy! Glad you had a great time and also that you’re back. :-)

  3. tal says:

Congratulations Steve! wonderful news, but you got me worried for a while (3 days).
I doubt for a long time now that the OSs on top of moblin are ready for a real release … hopefully soon.

Yes, it appears that MIDs are gone. Little laptops (too small to use, and too expensive to justify) are the new rage. If they keep wanting to make a 9″+ device, then it must be cheap and have a 2.5″ hard drive.

Now if they would just make a thumbboard-sized Eee or similar, then I’ll be happy. (Has to cost <= 400 USD.)

i want some news on the LG b831 umpc…

i found this a very promising device, but you don’t hear anything about it anymore, although you can pre-order it at expansys..strange..

  6. scoobie says:

    Expansys preordering is fiction mostly

The MIDs were there if you google around, especially Taiwanese sites like cnet Taiwan. UMPCs were there too (though no new ones). The market is dominated by cheap netbooks right now and up to Christmas it seems. Devices without keyboards or without the push that Apple can give won’t get much airtime this year I think.

The big rumour is the Sony UX has been withdrawn in the US, so that might mean upgrade time this summmer
