For everyone considering the Compal/Gigabyte/Aigo MID and looking for XP upgrade capability, re-tune now to JKKMobile.com where JKK is testing out the new drivers. First reports are that the new drivers may not be working with the current hardware but JKK is working further to confirm this.

jkkmobile: Aigo MID XP drivers available.

Really doesn’t look good for current users. I have spent like 5 hours or more yesterday trying to get wifi working with no luck. Looks like aigo is really planning some hardware changes for their XP version.

Well that’s life, sad but true!

Last hope is that we can hack the hardware and it’s easy to do.

    Joao.

  3. Ishman says:

I assume since the linux version can get the wifi to work via software, that the same can be said for xp.

I have requested some more info from Aigo regarding the hardware specs of the new model. Mobilx have pretty mush the same specs listed on their site as for the previous model, but on the Aigo site it says the P8888w will be available with 4gb or 8gb ssd, I dont think it would make any sense to have 4x2gb ssd’s in the mid, so my guess is it will now have either 1x4gb or 2x4gb ssd’s, this makes more sense for XP also. Will update when i get the reply from Aigo.

  5. Marc says:

Go JKK, please get these working. I love my M528, but it’s value to me would double if I could get XP working on it…

  6. anon says:

Looks like there was/will be a hardware change in the XP model and the Linux model won’t be getting a working WiFi under Windows.

Oh, and check that typo in the first word of the article title.

Thx. I rely on you people as my proof readers!!

  8. Joao Oliveira (BasspPT) says:

XP Works great. Just wifi doesn’t. Makes me wonder what on earth did they do wrong that the thing work on linux but not on XP! I know you can manipulate drivers easier on Linux than on XP but still.

Whatever they did we will find out soon.

@MorganJ. Apparently the only changes for the xp version is something related to WIFI and SDD. it will be 2x4gb sdds.

Sad days for old aigo costumers, thats the truth.

    Ciao,
    Joao.

  9. Charlie says:

Left out in the cold again by a manufacturer who promises but never delivers. Shame on Aigo.

  10. Joao Oliveira (BassoPT) says:

Aigo or other company selling the Compal JAX10 promissed xp in any way. You knew it was try at your own risk. You bought a device with a linux distro and that was it.

Not defending Aigo or any other here just, it were just rumours and some crazy headed who putted their minds on getting xp to work on aigo. Until less than a month ago there wasn’t any official position by any company about supporting xp for this device.

it’s sad but it’s the reality.

    Joao.

  11. EC says:

BEWARE! No idea in trying to install these on your current Aigo models, won’t do you any good, only trouble! SORRY BUT TRUE!

  12. John in Norway says:

For once not giving in to my gadget lust has paid off. It’s just a shame that the new models seem to be even more ridiculously priced than the old one.

  13. Morganj says:

Confirmation from Aigo, the new P8888w model has 1x4gb SSD, should make XP installation easier.

  14. maxus says:

They better get those prices down or the Umid is going to put Aigo in serious trouble.

    Aigio is in Greece
