The Viliv S5 that has been sent for review and MIDMoves SXSW duties has just cleared customs in Germany which means it’s highly likely that we’ll not only do a live MeetMobility CeBIT roundup podcast tomorrow but also a live testing and Q&A session with the brand new Viliv S5. Ben and JKK also have the Sony Vaio P so we’ll add those two into the mix. Sascha from Netbooknews.de will be around too. It’s going to be a long long night of mobile computing fun so join us at 2000hrs CET, tomorrow on UMPCPortal.com/live or JKKMobile.com/live

Hey Chippy, can you record the videocast and post it as time zones prevent some people (such as me) from viewing it live. I`m very interested in hearing about the Viliv S5.

  2. chippy says:

    I’ll definately record it.

Can you do a 3d test with it? Nobody seems to test the SGX535 powerVR chip in the atom platform in their reviews. I want to see its limits and what kind of power it has. Maybe you can download a few free game demos to it to see if the framerates are good?

3D tests on GMA500 never seem to return anything to talk about but i’ll try and incorporate a few 3D tests. Time will be limited so gaming demo’s probably won’t be on the cards on Monday evening.

i got to say, this, and the mobbit computer, both looks like what the UMPC should have been back when microsoft was going full tilt origami.

now all one really need is some way to add a external graphics chip, and build a kind of standardized dock system (mostly usb and said grahpics connector) and people could just up and go with their mid between desktops.

  6. turn.self.off says:

hmm, there seems to be a spec for pci-e over cables. that could do the trick if it can pack 16x…

  7. tomschrot says:

due to bad support for SGX535 in the intel driver, the 3D graphics should seem to be quite bad. but the SGX535 is supposed to perform much better! please ref to http://www.mitrax.de/?cont=artikel&aid=35&page=12 (in german)

some analysis of the actual intel driver situation could be revelatory…

Update: S5 is on final approach via Fedex!
