Without Jailbreaking… the iPhone Would Suck

Posted on 18 April 2010, Last updated on 18 April 2010 by

And the list goes on…

The list I’ve created here is simply one of features that should be included in the iPhone, but for some reason or another are decidedly absent. There are plenty more tweaks that I’ve installed thanks to jailbreaking, which didn’t make the list because they are more extras, rather than obvious missing features/nuances. Everything listed above is something that jailbreaking fixes, that would otherwise be a point on a bulleted list of reasons that the iPhone sucks. Without jailbreaking, I wouldn’t be able to fix any of the holes that Apple left. If jailbreaking didn’t exist, I’d probably tell you that the iPhone sucks and I’d be using a Nexus One right now.

Sadly, Apple condemns jailbreaking, and has tried to make it illegal, citing the DMCA. This is sad because the developers who are making this stuff for jailbreakers are not only making the iPhone not suck (for people like me), but they are showing Apple exactly what sorts of things are painfully missing, and giving Apple ideas of how they can be fixed.

I’m glad that I can fix these painfully omitted features, and I have to give huge credit to the geniuses behind jailbreaking and each individual mod/tweak that is available through it. It’s sort of a perspective thing. Once you realize what life is like with these things, you don’t want to go back to life without them. With these adjustments, I can say that my iPhone does not suck. It’s actually pretty damn good. What say you, commenters? If you don’t own an iPhone, would knowing that many of the common annoyances could be fixed potentiality change your mind about it? How about existing owners who don’t jailbreak, do you feel that your iPhone is lacking? Could jailbreaking help?

(For those interested in jailbreaking, I encourage you to go have a look ovet at the ModMyi.com forums. They can get you started on the right foot.)

Bluntly put: Yes it does! Though some major annoyances such as having to close the current application for changing the brightness or answering text messages should be done for with the 4.0 OS; Isn’t it going to introduce multitasking?

You’re terribly right, they really shouldn’t condemn jail breakers, but rather hire them :-)
