Sony seems to have a knack for releasing innovative, well built Ultrabooks like its VAIO Duo series and the VAIO Pro now has introduced the VAIO Flip Ultrabook range which can switch between laptop, tablet and viewer modes with a unique 2nd hinge design.
Today I’m pitting the Sony Vaio Duo 13 (third-gen Haswell Ultrabook) against the Asus UX31E (first-gen Sandybridge Ultrabook) in sleep and wake times. One of Intel’s goals for the Ultrabook platform was to eventually reach a point of instant-on, just like a tablet or smartphone, with Haswell, they’ve finally done it.
You can save $100 on the Sony Vaio T13 touchscreen Ultrabook, bringing the starting price to $699. The company recently reduced the entry-level price for the T13 touch to match that of the non-touchscreen T13. The T13 is one of three T-series Ultrabooks from Sony that can be equipped with a touchscreen.
Not that long ago at CES 2013 Sony announced they were introducing two new additions to the Vaio T-Series lineup, a touch-enabled T-14 and a new T-15 model, also with a touchscreen and today these two new Ultrabooks are available to order from Sony and Best Buy
Sony is now offering a Vaio T14 Ultrabook, a 14″ version of the company’s Ultrabook line. It joins the aptly named T11 (11″) and T13 (13″). This one slipped under our radar last month amid the flood of Windows 8 Ultrabooks being announced. Sony unfortunately missed an opportunity to add additional features to the T14, instead opting to included a dated optical drive.
We’ve got our hands on the Sony VAIO T13 Ultrabook which has so far been quite impressive. In addition to having one of the the most unique designs in the Ultrabook market, the T13 is also one of the cheapest 13″ Ultrabooks you can get your hands on. The build quality is quite impressive and it resumes nearly instantly from sleep. The T13 will soon be launching with a touchscreen and Windows 8 making this a better time than ever to see if it’s worth waiting for.
Though it seems doubtful that the smaller VAIO T11 is going to make it to US shores, Sony US is currently offering up to $320 on savings on the T13 Ultrabook. The discounts do not come off of the base price but are instead discounts on upgrades that you can select during the customization process. Additionally, if you’re a student you can get up to $250 toward a PS3 or Playstation Vita. Here’s a rundown of the savings: Read the full story
Sony surprised us last week when they finally jumped into the Ultrabook market with the VAIO T series. Shortly thereafter we got confirmation the T series would also be offered with the next-gen Ivy Bridge CPU, which I’m particularly excited about given that Intel says the HD4000 graphics will be twice as fast as the existing generation of Sandy Bridge Ultrabooks.
I’ve scoured the web for the best photos of the VAIO T series (T11 and T13 specs) that have yet been released. Here’s a high-res gallery of the slick looking Ultrabooks:
