Gigabyte T1028 ‘Touchbook’ First Report Looks Good.

gigabyte_1 When I think back to the M912, Gigabyte’s first touchscreen netbook, I think about fast hard drive speed, a fun form factor and easy upgrade capability. Unfortuinately I also think about the noise and heat. [M912 Video]

The T1028M ‘Touchnote’ is the latest touchscreen convertible from Gigabyte and from looks alone (we checked it out at CeBIT) it seems like a good improvement over the M912. Price is looking good and we should be getting one either this week or next week for full-on testing and a live session.

We won’t be the first to get full hands-on and review though because the device is already out there. Engadget China have put up a few bullet-point notes [translation] and they look good. Noise and temperature seem to have been addressed, there’s a multi-touch mousepad and talk of 4.5hours battery life (on a 6-cell battery though.) I get the impression that Engadget were’nt overwhelmed with excitement meaning it’s not going to be the netbook to beat all netbooks but that’s not where it’s targeted. There’s one thing that could be very interesting to test out though… Point 4 on the Engadget list appears to indicate that the touchscreen quality is different. Could this be a slightly harder-touch screen? If so, this could be a dream come true for all the natural input fans out there. With Windows 7, it could really shine in that department.
