Apple iPad alternatives

at 680gm (1.5lbs) the iPad comes in at a larger-than-expected weight which could limit its use as a mobile device but the entry-level, no-contract price of $499 is groundbreaking for Apple. Ebooks, Maps, Video, Music and a high-quality web experience through a fun and friendly user interface will qualify it for many. Limitations and 'showstoppers' exist (no SD slot, no Flash support, no multi-tasking.) One of the first 'good value' products from Apple.

Launched 27th Jan 2010. Availability - End of March 2010. Base pricing $499 (16GB without 3G) 32 and 64GB options available ($100 premium for each) and 3G available for $130 premium. High end total cost $829. Docking port supports USB out, VGA out, composite out. Note: GPS only appears in 3g version.

ASUS Transformer Pad ( TF300T), 10.1 inch, 586 grams (1.29 lbs)
A good upgrade from the original Transformer. The Transformer Pad TF300T is the first device to use Nvidia's Tegra 3 platform. The optional keyboard has an additional battery which will allow the Transformer to run up to 18 hours, according to Asus. The add-on nature of this keyboard makes the Transformer Prime a versatile device; able to function as a standalone tablet, or as a laptop-style productivity device. Unfortunately the tablet itself is somewhat lacking in the port department, with only Micro HDMI, MicroSD, and a proprietary dock connector on the tablet itself. Adding the keyboard will also bring along with it a full-sized SD card reader and full-sized USB 2.0 port, though it would have been nice to see one full-sized USB port on the tablet itself along with another on the keyboard for adding a mouse and an external storage device.
Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet, 10.1 inch, 715 grams (1.58 lbs)
The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet is a standard Tegra 2 device with 3G options and up to 64GB Storage. It does feature an IPS display with Gorilla Glass. With its full size USB slot and its SD Card Slot it provides good connectivity for file exchange on the go.

With the possibility to add the Tablet to the optional dock one can have 2 more USB 2.0 ports plus the ability to extend the screen via HDMI to another device.
