At a barebones price of around $120 the latest Intel NUC sounds attractive but you'll need to add SSD, RAM and an OS before you can use it. Low power consumption means it has industrial uses. The most common use for Intel NUCs is for media player / home theater HTPC units. (E.g. Kodi)

The ECS Liva Core with Intel Core M is now official and goes head-to-head with the Zotac Zbox ZI521.
The design is unique with its see-through top panel and the port selection good too although we don?t see any consumer IR support. The front-mounted ports seem a little over the top too. Surely a single USB and audio ports would be better? At the rear you?ll find another USB 3.0 port, Gigabit Ethernet, 2 HDMI ports and a headset port.

There are no fans in the box but there is top quality wired and wireless connectivity provided by dual gigabit ethernet ports, AC wifi and Bluetooth 4.0.

The Intel NUC (Next Unit of Computing) 5i5RYK is a mini pc with a very small footprint of only 11.5 x 11.1 cm base dimensions. There are multiple versions available with differing heights, depending on the included internal headers available. This model comes with a M.2 SSD slot as the only storage solution so the height is only 3.4 cm. Other models have a 2.5" SATA port for more internal storage. In terms of ports the Intel NUC 5i5 offers 4x USB 3.0, Gigabit LAN, headphone jack, mini DisplayPort 1.2 (with eDP support), mini HDMI 1.4a and an infrared receiver.
