ASUS R2H available for pre-order in EU. €900

Posted on 22 September 2006 by Chippy

At last we’re seeing some online resellers in Europe offering the ASUS R2H and the prices look good.

For a 768MB/60GB UMPC with Web-cam (this doesn’t appear to be the cut-down model from Holland) you’re looking at around €900.

So the ASUS is coming in as the cheapest Origami UMPC to date as the standard Q1 512MB/40GB is selling for €1160 and the Paceblade Easybook P7 256MB/40GB (equiv. Tablet Kiosk v7110) for €1250

Delivery is expected in the next 4 weeks in Germany.

Details taken from Geizhals.at the German price comparison engine.

No word on U.S. pricing but you can estimate that the price is going to come in at about 15% below the un-discounted Q1.

Launch event for Germany (and I’m assuming other European markets) is planned for 27th Sept.

Steve / Chippy.

Steve, the Eo V7110(paceblade) in the USA is about $1000 for the 512mb 40gb version and not even close to the €1250($1591.38) you mentioned. Is there a huge markup in Europe for these?
On the otherhand the AHI if going for €900 which will be about $1145.79 in the USA besides S/H which is way over what I was willing to pay for it.
I’d get either the Samsung Q1p model or the Eo(the model with the Pentium) if I was going to spend that much money. For a Celeron at 900mhz that is way too steep for me as i’m sure it is for others. No thanks.

    Dear Steve,

First of all let me say that I appreciate your work on the carrypad site a lot and i must confess i am addicted to it now.Thank you for all the insights into things, they really help me put things into perspective and I can learn new things everyday.
The thing is, I have been waiting for the R2H for so long now and I have been put into some kind of dilemma (financial and utility- wise). The shops here in London are (from what i have heard from the people down tottenham court road) gonna sell it for £799+usb keyboard+external dvd/dvdr drive. But as posted by you today, the ones being put on pre-order on the site in Germany are around 900 euros, which is only about £605. i find the difference to be a lot so i wanted to ask you a couple of questions and please forgive me if any questions sound stupid ’cause i don’t really know much about computers at all.

The ones being sold in Germany for 900 euros, are they gonna have any free accessories?
    &
If i order it online from the site you referred to, will the operating systems, manuals and everything be in German?
    &
I think with the 200 quid or so that I save by ordering online i could utilise on buying a nice bluetooth keyboard such as the one you reviewed a couple of days ago+ another dvd drive which i am sure would probably be a lot better than the one supplied along with the Asus R2H as a bundle or package.
Please let me know what you thnk about all these issues.Thanking you in anticipation.

    Best Regards,
    Aviruth Sachdev

Good old Tottenham Court Road. I used to work in Euston and it was tough walking down there every day to get lunch!

I suspect that when you see the devices online, you’ll be saving 10% over the TCR prices and you have to consider that you’ll get a German manual and Windows. There won’t be any free accesories and shipping to the UK will cost you extra. (maybe 20 pounds)

Keep an eye on the Expansys website in the UK. I expect prices to go up there next week then you can make a more informed decision.

    Steve.

Thank you for the tip Steve, appreciate it.I think i’ll have to be patient, hang in there a bit more, and, as you say, wait a bit and decide on a more informed basis.

If expansys is more than likely getting info next week, i’ll assume MobilePlanet (the US arm of expansys) will have info then also.
