How far behind are the Dummies?

Posted on 12 May 2008 by Chippy

dummies Mainstream book publishers are starting to get onto the mobile Internet bandwagon but its almost shocking to see how far progressed they think the mainstream customer is. I don’t argue that they are wrong as for most people, the mobile Internet really does start with someone showing them that there’s a browser on their mobile phone.

Mobile Internet For Dummies explains how the Mobile Internet differs from the garden-variety Internet.

I dare say that there’s not a single mention of Mobile Internet Devices or Ultra Mobile PC’s in this book because for the early UMPC and MID adoptors, there is no difference between the garden variety Internet and the mobile Internet!

as a long time wap and opera mini user i have to ask, what is the most important. content or layout?

yes, layout have something to do with content. but content is present even when layout changes.

what is sad is that most content online isnt stored in a flexible way. the layout and content is so intermixed that trying to separate one from the other is a near futile exercise…

imo, this focus on devices that can show the web unaltered is attacking the problem at the wrong end.
