Today only: Fujitsu U810 for $399

Posted on 23 October 2009 by

fujitsu u810 It’s a good day when Woot throws up a UMPC for sale, and today is one of those days. I think this is a first for Woot – they are offering the Fujitsu U810 [Portal page] at sellout.woot.com today for $399. This seems to be a pretty good deal as a quickly glance around the web reveals that you can’t even get a used U810 this cheap, let alone a brand new one. Though the U810 is quite dated, it might make for a good experimental mobile computer if that’s your thing. Brief specs following; see the above linked Portal page for additional details.

  • 5.6” 1024×600 screen
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 60GB HDD
  • Your choice of Vista Home Premium, or Vista Business OS
  • Intel A110 800 MHz CPU

Remember, as per Woot’s tradition, this deal will be gone after today, and could potentially sell out even before then.

It is a little dated, but put Win 7 on it, swap the HDD for SSD and its a little screamer. Battery life is 5Hrs+. Weighs almost nothing, and is small enough that you dont even know you have it with you.

Fantastic deal! I’m trying hard to come up with a reason why I need a third U810.
They are really fantastic devices. Ive tried 5 other UMPCs, including the U810′s successor the U820, but haven’t found anything better. With some tweaking, it runs fantastic. The U820 was a big disappointment to me due to the GMA500 graphics. I’m sure the drivers have matured by now, but it couldn’t do half the things the U810 could do.
An SSD turns this into a beast too. For $399, you could still drop $200 on an SSD and be under the prices these sometimes go for.

I’ll let you know that I’m drooling right now.

I’ve actually been scouring eBay for some. I wanted to check out prices before I committed to one. Really, though, I don’t have the funds at the moment, even though it’s actually a good investment for me. :(

  7. Chris Davies says:

Damn you Ben. Having realised that you can pay internationally as long as you ship to a US address (i.e. my in-laws, thank goodness for them!) I’ve now gone and ordered one. This is all your fault.

Now just to wait until Christmas when I’m actually over there to pick it up…

    Ben Reply:

Glad I managed to wrangle you in to this one, now you can let us know what you do with it! Wasn’t this supposed to be your day off!? It’s a shame that you’ll have to wait until Christmas to actually use it : P

    Chris Davies Reply:

Yes, I wasn’t supposed to be anywhere near the computer today; a total coincidence that the one time I sneak a look, I see your article!

As for what I’m going to do with the U810, I’ve actually got no idea. There’s a Samsung Q1 sitting unused in its box in the cupboard, and a Nokia N800 unused on the shelf, so obviously I decided I needed something in-between to ignore too! Maybe the keyboard will make a difference this time.

If not, I could always stick it on ebay and probably make back what I paid for it. They’re a rarity in the UK still, and the only ones I see right now have the 40GB not 60GB HDD.

I see you bought one fujitsu and may think about selling, saw them on woot for $399.00 but was out of bussiness one. I would be willing to purchase at resonable price if it is unused and going to sit on cupboard.need it badly.let me know if your interested, thanks kathy scorpiokelly1@yahoo.com

    Chris Davies Reply:

Quick update; still don’t have my U810 of course, but it’s now sitting at my in-laws waiting for me to be there over Christmas. Interestingly, according to the feedback at Woot from those who have received theirs too, it’s actually the 3G version with integrated UMTS; that wasn’t mentioned in the original listing. Considering Fujitsu were originally charging $200 more for WWAN, it’s looking even more like a bargain at $399 overall!

Kathy, thanks for the offer, I’ll certainly bear it in mind. I won’t have a chance to play (and thus decide whether I like) with the U810 until late December, so if you need one sooner it’s probably a better idea to keep watching ebay…

With UMID M2 around the corner, I don’t see the reason on jumping into this one.

  9. Ben K. says:

The only question I’ll through there…Can the 800 mhz really handle windows at an acceptable standard?

    Velik Reply:

I was thinking the same thing 800mhz and vista sound like a disaster worse than preteen pregnancy…. if this thing is capable of screaming, then you would think that th x70 would blow it away, esp. after its overclocked ( i think you can get it to do 1.5ghz with oc’ing )

  10. icura says:

the 800mhz in the U810 is about as powerful as the 1.6GHz atom. It’s more than powerful enough. It’s the 1GB ram that limits it to XP or minimal 7/Vista.

The graphics is actually more powerful than the GMA500 in the atom UMPCs as well, but it draws a lot more energy and can not handel full dx9 like the GMA500.

I have had one for a while now but still, it’s getting a bit old now and am considering replacing it, but never saw anything that tempted me. I’m using it now.

  11. paqutio says:

Im just salivating and wondered why they dont deliver here in Canada. Will someone buy me one and send it to me…

  12. snowviper says:

I do like U810 style (especially the white one) but end up with u820 because of processor power, screen res, and battery.

Saw u820 for $530 open box and $599 NIB.

    Crud, a day late!
Really all there is to say is “Wow.”

  14. ProDigit says:

    I was a little late!
Today they sell em for nearly $1300
    I can’t believe I hadmissed such a great deal :-/
